Responsibilities for this position include conducting and publishing academic research. Apart from academic research, the postdoc researcher is expected to actively interact with SNN, the key partner of the research project. SNN is a collaboration between the three Northern provinces in the Netherlands, which aims to strengthen the economic position of the Northern region via stimulating and subsidizing collaboration and innovation activities.

Professor D.L.M. (Dries) Faems initiated – with the support of the Faculty’s Research Institute SOM (see: https://www.rug.nl/research/som-ri/) and SNN – an annual Innovation monitor (https://www.snn.nl/over-snn/snn-als-dienstverlener-subsidies/noord-nederlandse-innovatiemonitor) to track SME’s innovation performance and activities in the Northern Netherlands. The postdoc researcher is expected to collaborate with Prof Faems (WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management and University of Groningen) and Dr Broekhuizen (University of Groningen) to further develop the innovation survey, conduct statistical analyses, and report to SNN and its stakeholders.

The position is situated in the department of Innovation Management & Strategy which comprises six Full Professors, eight Associate Professors, and 20 Assistant Professors in addition to PhD students. We have a diverse department with more than 40% international staff and 37% female staff members. The department contributes to programmes at the (honours) bachelor, master, research master levels and to the PhD programme of the research school SOM.

The department is responsible for four Master of Science tracks: Change Management, Small Business & Entrepreneurship, Strategic Innovation Management, and Health. The department covers a variety of interests and backgrounds, and embraces a number of different research approaches with a keen focus on academic quality in research and teaching. We focus on applied as well as fundamental research questions. Areas of research at the department include innovation, strategy, information systems, organization theory & entrepreneurship (see: https://www.rug.nl/feb/organization/departments/ims/).

Requirements

Our new colleague would (soon be able to) meet the following requirements:
• a PhD
• a demonstrated potential for conducting high quality research
• proven interest and ability to engage with SME businesses, granting bodies, and policy makers
• excellent knowledge of the Dutch language (the Innovation monitor is conducted in Dutch and communication to SNN and other stakeholders is in Dutch);
• a great team player with good communication skills.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 18 maanden.

The University of Groningen offers a salary depending on qualifications and work experience starting from a minimum of € 3,545 (to a maximum of € 4,852 gross per month (salary scale 11) for a full-time position, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees.

The starting date for the Postdoc position is 1 January 2019. We can offer a temporary contract for a period of 1.5 years (until 30 June 2020).

A fiscal facility pertaining to extraterritorial costs, the 30% facility, may be applicable if the rules of Dutch tax law permit this. The conditions of employment comply with the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (https://www.vsnu.nl/en_GB/cao-universiteiten.html )
