Job description

The laboratory of Geo-information Science and Remote Sensing invites applications from young and motivated scientists for the position of Assistant (UD) or Associate Professor (UHD) in Geo-information Data Science. The candidate will be asked to contribute to the education activities and the group's research agenda. The candidate is expected to develop innovative scientific research strengthening and complementing the already ongoing themes in the group.
Focus of this position will be in geo-information science and its interfaces with big data science, including (but not limited to) the development of crowdsourcing technologies, visualization/augmented reality, localization, deep learning and/or spatio-temporal modelling of multiple heterogeneous geospatial data sources. The candidate expertise and vision will be in line with the thematic domains of the GRS group: from smart cities, urban computing and digital humanities to agriculture, nature conservation and land use characterisation. Track of successful collaborations with the humanities will be considered an asset .

Requirements

The candidate must hold a PhD in Geo-information Science, Computer Science or related fields. An excellent academic record (research, passion for teaching, attracting research funding) in line with the expected profile for a Tenure Track at Wageningen University is required. The candidate should show leadership in developing a vision on future research and education in Geo-information Science and be an inspiring ambassador of her/his theme towards stakeholders both within and outside academia, nationally and internationally.

We offer
A full time position for an Assistant or Associate Professor. Evaluation on job performance is every 3 years, and a positive outcome will continue in a permanent position after 6 years. Salary depends on knowledge and experience. Gross salary per month from € 3.545,- to € 4.852,- (assistant professor position) and from € 4.911,- to € 5.978,- (associate professor position) based on full time employment.

The Department's fundamental research and education concerns our living environment: nature, landscape, land use, mitigation and adaptation to climate change, water management, and various competing claims on space.
