Job description

Background of the position

The department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry (CEC) pursues top-notch education and ground-breaking research at the frontier of chemical and engineering sciences. The departmental research in the areas of molecular systems, materials chemistry and chemical process technology is highly innovative and of high scientific quality, delivers products and processes of potential use to society and has intensive, strong collaboration with the industry. Since 2013, the research and education activities have been arranged in two thematic clusters focusing on Molecular Systems & Materials Chemistry (MSMC) and Chemical & Process Technology (CPT). In both clusters, the department maintains an excellent national and international position in areas such as supramolecular organic chemistry, functional materials, chemical process engineering and catalysis. This is evident from high scientific output and the large number of personal grants to staff members in the NWO Vernieuwingsimpuls (Veni, Vidi and Vici) and ERC, as well as other EU-funded projects in the CEC department. In addition, the quality of the education programs at the CEC department is outstanding. The BSc and MSc programs have been awarded the certificate for 'Top-opleiding' for the last five years. The chemical engineering and chemistry components in these programs are positively evaluated by the international accreditation bodies IChemE (Chemical Process Technology) and ECTN (Chemistry). The programs are taught entirely in the English language.

Job Description

In a world that becomes increasingly complex, technology-driven and demanding, the integration of different scientific fields is unavoidable and educating young scientists at the interface of disciplines is a necessity. A successful integration is based on very strong mono-discipline knowledge. In this context, the Eindhoven University of Technology has a vacancy for a tenure track assistant professor for the capacity group Molecular Sciences and Technology in the area bridging organic chemistry, supramolecular chemistry and advanced materials. The goals of the tenure track assistant professor position will join the existing group with providing access to well-defined functional materials and to get a full understanding of one of the most intriguing scientific questions on how to create life-like materials by a multi-step non-covalent synthetic approach.

Tasks

As a tenure track assistant professor Supramolecular Chemistry and Materials, you will fulfil the following activities:

Research:
                        Perform high-level scientific research
Present results on international conferences and publish results in
                        high ranking scientific journals
Appear as a project leader in scientific research projects
Contribute to the acquisition of research financing
Supervise (a part of) the laboratory

Education:
Contribute to the theoretical and practical courses of the Ba and Ma students in the
educational programme of the department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry.
You will participate in running courses but are also encouraged to adapt existing
courses or set up a new course in your specific field of interest
