Coordinating Officer Knowledge and Education
As the Coordinating Officer Knowledge and Education, you are part of the GCA staff with a primary focus on the Groningen location. You are the linking pin between GCA and the Groningen partners. At GCA you work in close liaison with the Director of Science and Innovation, Dr Richard Klein. You will be looking for opportunities to link the GCA agenda and partners to the network and research in Groningen, but will also advise on opportunities for cooperation with relevant knowledge and educational institutions on a global scale

What we expect from the Coordinating Officer Knowledge and Education
- focal point GCA-Groningen office
You are the focal point for the Groningen office of GCA. This means linking persons and content between GCA and Groningen partners, but also the more practical matters concerning the facility of the Groningen office.
- liaison between GCA Groningen office and researchers and professionals
Groningen researchers and professionals can contribute to GCA through their expertise and network. You familiarize yourself with the people involved in climate adaptation, build up good relationships with the professors at both universities in Groningen and are the liaison officer between GCA and the researchers and professionals from Groningen.
- coordinating activities
You act as coordinator knowledge and education for the GCA with an emphasis on international knowledge and educational institutions with climate adaptation research modules and liaising with relevant education partners to sustain the fellowship program of the GCA.
- advisor on knowledge and education
You provide an overview of important knowledge and educational institutions on climate adaptation, advise on specific relations and studies and establish the needed network for the GCA to further establish the knowledge basis.
- support the young leadership program
You are the lead support for the (logistic) execution of the young leadership program of the GCA in close collaboration with the Director of operations of GCA, preferably in partnership with existing international fellowship programs such as the University of Groningen, Hanze University of Applied Sciences or IHE Delft. You ensure the young leaders will receive a clear assignment, coaching and managing from (the partners) the GCA by developing the positions for the internship positions with the Center directors.
- setting up the organizational form and structure of GCA Groningen office
Over the coming years GCA Groningen will grow. Research staff and supporting staff will be employed. You will be responsible for building up the organization. Furthermore, the first GCA internships will soon start, and you will be responsible for organizing this internship scheme.
- profiling GCA Groningen office
You are responsible for the public relations of GCA Groningen office.
- reporting
You will report to the Director of Research of the GCA. The Director of Research will report to the five partners (Municipality of Groningen, Province of Groningen, University Groningen, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, and University Medical Center Groningen) on the progress of GCA and the position of Groningen in GCA.

Requirements

We are looking for someone who has:
- a master or preferably a PhD degree in a relevant domain
- proven knowledge in Climate Adaptation, which is clear from your CV
- experience in working at universities, preferably inside knowledge of the universities in Groningen
- good organizing and networking skills and can work under pressure
- excellent verbal and written English communication skills
- experience in working with students or interns.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 12 months.

The University of Groningen offers a salary depending on qualifications and work experience starting with € 3,637 gross per month (salary scale 11 Dutch Universities) to a maximum of € 5,656 (scale 12), based on full employment. The position is linked to the UFO profile of external cooperation coordinator 3. The position (0.8 – 1.0 FTE) is temporary starting with an appointment at the University of Groningen for a period of one year with the possibility of extension.

Secondary benefits, based on the Collective Employment Agreement of the Dutch Universities are excellent in general and include e.g. a pension scheme, flexible employment conditions and salaries are supplemented with a holiday allowance of 8% and end-of-year bonus of 8.3% per year.

The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) (www.gca.org) advances bold action to help societies across the world become more resilient to climate-related threats. GCA acts as a solutions broker, bringing together governments, the private sector, civil society, intergovernmental bodies and knowledge institutions that can address the obstacles slowing down adaptation action. The Global Center builds on, improves, and accelerates breakthrough solutions that catalyze transformation at scale and at speed. The GCA is stationed in two locations: Rotterdam and Groningen.

The Groningen office of the GCA focuses on the field of Research and Innovation on Climate Adaptation with an emphasis on knowledge and education. The unique cooperation with the several Groningen partners and the location of the office in the Energy Academy form an effective basis for this specific emphasis. The knowledge and education focus will feed into the working plan of the GCA for Research and Innovation and contribute to the concrete solutions needed to fulfil the ambition of the GCA to be a solution broker and the agenda of the Commission for the second year, the year of action.
GCA staff work at both locations, but the Coordinating Officer will primarily be located in the Groningen office.

The Groningen office is building an additional team from the various stakeholders in the Groningen region, most notably from the Municipality of Groningen, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, University of Groningen and JIN.
