The Department of Economics (AE2) at the School of Business and Economics (SBE) of Maastricht University offers a 4-year PhD position in the field of applied labour economics. Eligible candidates must have successfully completed a – preferably 2-year (120 ECTS) – Master’s degree (MSc or MPhil) in (Quantitative) Economics, Econometrics, Mathematics, or a related area (before September 2019) and have a good “competence” in written and spoken English.

The candidate will work on a research project to investigate the effects of information and institutions on job search and labour market outcomes of unemployed job seekers. The project will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Thomas Dohmen and Dr. Steffen Künn. Further, the candidate is expected to contribute to teaching activities at the department, taking max. 20% of his/her time.

Fixed-term contract: 4 years.

Remuneration will be according to standard salary levels for PhD students starting with a salary of € 2,266.- with a yearly growth to € 2,897.- gross a month (based on a full-time appointment). Each year the standard salary is supplemented with a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.

You have to be willing to move to (the vicinity of) Maastricht. If you do not already live in Maastricht (or its direct surroundings), you will be eligible for an allowance for moving costs. Other secondary conditions include a pension scheme and partially paid parental leave.

The Department of Economics consists of two sections:

Section AE1 hosts approximately 20 full-time faculty members and 20 PhD students. Their research focuses on topics in the areas of Microeconomics, Economic Theory, Public Economics, Political Economy, Experimental Economics, Behavioral Economics and Neuroeconomics.

Section AE2 hosts approximately 30 full-time faculty members and 25 PhD students. Their research focuses on topics in Macroeconomics, Monetary Economics, Labour Economics, Education, International Economics, Innovation and Growth, and Economic Policy.
