Job description

The department of Economics (section AE2) at the School of Business and Economics (SBE) of Maastricht University is committed to high quality research and education. Our goal is to combine academic rigor with real-world relevance and impact. The department is looking for a talented and ambitious economist for a tenure track position in Macroeconomics/Monetary Economics.

The Assistant Professor contributes high quality research in the field of macroeconomics/monetary economics to the department and is committed to collaborate with the other researchers within the department as well as beyond. The Assistant Professor teaches and coordinates courses in the area of macroeconomics and monetary economics in bachelor, in master, and in post-graduate programmes. The Assistant Professor contributes to the further development of the programmes. Education is performed within small groups according to the Problem Based Learning principle. We strive to excel in teaching and in innovative teaching methods. All teaching at SBE is in English.

Requirements

The applicant should hold a PhD degree in – quantitative – economics and has teaching and research expertise in the field of macroeconomics/monetary economics. The department appreciates an open mind to multidisciplinary research, non-mainstream approaches to economic research and the ambition to combine rigor with relevance. Conditions of employment

Salary is competitive and ranges (depending on qualifications and experience) from € 3.545,00 to € 5.513,00 per month (12 monthly payments) for a full-time position. On top of this, there is an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end of year allowance. Non-Dutch applicants may be eligible for favourable tax treatment.

Initially, candidates are employed on a temporary contract as assistant professor (level 2) and agree to specific development goals. Five years into the appointment, candidates will be evaluated and if the development goals have been met, promoted to assistant professor (level 1) on a permanent contract. The evaluation can be brought forward if criteria are met earlier. On the candidate’s request the evaluation can be deferred in case of special personal circumstances, such as pregnancy leave, parental leave or chronic illness.

The Department of Economics consists of two sections:

Section AE1 hosts approximately 20 full-time faculty members and 20 PhD students. Their research focuses on topics in the areas of Microeconomics, Economic Theory, Public Economics, Political Economy, Experimental Economics, Behavioral Economics and Neuroeconomics.

Section AE2 hosts approximately 30 full-time faculty members and 25 PhD students. Their research focuses on topics in Macroeconomics, Monetary Economics, Labour Economics, Education, International Economics, Innovation and Growth, and Economic Policy.
