Job description

In a challenging career trajectory you are, as Assistant Professor in Experimental Synthetic Biology responsible for the organization, implementation and coordination of new research and teaching activities in this field, as well as building up a leading international position. In this position you will also be motivating and teaching students and develop new courses. Training and coaching is provided for the Assistant Professor to accomplish all this.

You will be part of the Laboratory of Systems and Synthetic Biology and embedded in the Wageningen Centre for Systems & Synthetic Biology. As all the other scientific staff members, you are expected to attract funding and to participate in the teaching and supportive activities of the Laboratory.

Requirements

As Assistant Professor you are an ambitious and enthusiastic scientist, and a team player, devoted to research and education in Systems & Synthetic Biology.

You also have:
  • a PhD in Synthetic Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology or related (with focus on Synthetic Biology);
  • solid knowledge if physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology (prokaryotic expertise being a bonus);
  • some computational competences such as scripting and experience in interacting with modelers would be advantageous;
  • several years of postdoctoral experience at high level and
  • an excellent track record according to the Tenure Track systems in place at the WUR
  • experience with supervision of PhD projects;
  • experience with management of multi-team projects
  • proven ability in acquiring research funding;
  • excellent communication skills;
  • excellent didactic qualities and enthusiasm for teaching and working with students.

Conditions of employment

We offer you a temporary contract for 38 hours per week, which can lead to a permanent employment contract.

For the position of Assistant Professor, we offer a gross salary of € 3545,- to € 5513,-per month, depending on expertise and experience (scale 11 - 12 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities), including 8% holiday pay and 8.3% end of year remuneration.
