6 MacGillavry Fellowships  (Tenure track position for talented female researchers)

The MacGillavry Fellowship is directed at talented women. You are strongly encouraged to apply if you have a strong track record in one of the Faculty’s scientific disciplines and at the same time have the potential and ambition to obtain a leadership position as professor at the University of Amsterdam.

Each MacGillavry Fellow will initially be appointed as an assistant professor on a temporary contract for six years. During this period you are expected to set up your own independent research programme hosted by one of the Faculty’s research institutes. You are expected to publish in high-profile journals, attract your own external funding and contribute to the teaching programmes within the Faculty of Science. We offer mentoring and courses to help you meet the requirements. Key performance indicators in both research and education will be monitored and will serve as input for a transparent evaluation process, which will lead to a decision as regards tenure. Assuming your tenure track is successful, you will be offered a permanent staff position as an associate professor. A subsequent personal career path towards a full professorship can be mutually agreed upon.

We are also happy to consider applications from women with a more senior profile than that of assistant professor. In that case, reduction in the length of the tenure track and/or entry at associate professor level are possibilities that can be tailor-made.

You are strongly encouraged to apply if you have: 

• a PhD degree in one of the scientific disciplines of our Faculty;
• a scientific profile that links to one of the research fields eligible for application;
• a publication record in international, high quality, peer reviewed journals;
• a few years of postdoctoral experience, preferably at international level;
• affinity for teaching at undergraduate and graduate level;
• well-developed organisational and communication skills.

General employment conditions:

• Annual salary range for an assistant professor, including annual holiday allowance and bonus is between € 50,755 and € 78,935 (before tax), depending on experience and past performance;
• generous holiday leave arrangements;

Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Science, located at the inspiring Amsterdam Science Park, has a leading position internationally in its fields of research and participates in a large number of collaborative programmes with other universities, research institutes and businesses.  The Faculty has a student body of around 7,000 and 1,600 members of staff, spread over eight research institutes and several Faculty-wide support services. A considerable part of our research is made possible by external funding from Dutch and international organisations as well as the private sector.
