Job description

An enthusiastic and enterprising researcher in the field of food physics and technology, who contributes to the development of new products and technologies for the food processing industry.
Wageningen Food & Biobased Research, part of Wageningen UR, offers a challenging and market-oriented environment where motivated scientific professionals conduct research for companies, government organisations and knowledge institutes. The Food Technology group develops knowledge and technology for the sustainable production of innovative, healthy and safe food products, e.g., products with less salt and fat, or plant-based meat replacers. The scientific focus is on the relationship between product properties, ingredient formulation and process technology. Thanks to among others our multi-disciplinary product and process knowledge, our clients were able to launch new products like Beeter, MacuView and Arina Light Cheese.

As a researcher you will be contribute to the further scientific development of this research area by:
  • Carrying out multidisciplinary applied-research projects in the field of sustainable food product and process development;
  • Elaborating and summarizing research results into reports, publications and presentations for our clients;
  • Translating fundamental scientific insights towards scalable manufacturing processes and innovative products which are coherent with societal trends related to sustainability and health;
  • Building and maintaining an effective (inter-) national network, to realise the desired market position in this research area.
We expect you to be enthusiastic, full of clever and innovative ideas, and able to develop and carry out concrete project plans together with your colleagues and industrial partners.

Requirements

  • An ambitious colleague with quality awareness and an inquisitive mind, who is able to carry out and report experiments, both autonomously and in cooperation with a project team;
  • A degree (MSc, PhD) in a relevant area, e.g., Food Sciences, Product Development or Chemical Technology;
  • Subject knowledge on physical-chemical and rheological properties of food products and their ingredients. Specific knowledge on plant proteins is an advantage;
  • Excellent communication skills and good verbal and written command of Dutch and English.
You have the ability to grow towards a project leaders function, for which, next to your scientific knowledge, competencies like organizing, cooperation and development of colleagues are particularly required.

We offer a temporary position with an average working time of 36 hours per week, for the period of 1 year, with the possibility of a permanent employment after a successful evaluation. Gross salary € 4934,-. maximum per month.
We not only offer a competitive salary but also good (study) leave and a pension of the ABP Pension Fund.
