The full professor:

  • Is the face of the successful international bachelor in Management of International Social Challenges and boosts its further development. For this the full professor will cooperate with others, such as teachers in the program, and will provide leadership.

  • Will further contribute to the faculty’s strategy, for example by aiding to the execution of our vision on the internationalisation of education. Other contributions could be in regard to lifelong learning and/or research data management.

  • Conducts (multi/inter-disciplinary) research in the field of Management of International Social Challenges (a structure report with a description of the field and expected developments therein is available upon request).

  • Performs teaching tasks, such as coordinating and (re)developing modules and supervising theses in the MISOC bachelor. Teaching can also be envisioned in other educational programs of ESSB, such as the International Master in Public Management and Public Policy, and/or the master specialisations Politics & Society and Social Inequalities.

  • Actively engages in acquiring external research funding.

  • Makes sure that her/his research has a positive public impact through different forms of valorisation.

  • Attracts and supervises PhD students and other (junior) researchers.

  • Is, in time, available for (other) managerial tasks within the ESSB apart from the MISOC bachelor.

Job requirements and profile

We are looking for candidates with:

Research:

  • Extensive experience researching the multilevel governance and management of international social challenges in general, and in the management of one international social challenge in particular, preferably climate change, poverty, development, financial instability or international (cyber) security;

  • A large number of high-quality publications in high-level journals;

  • A PhD in a related area such as international relations, political science, public administration, sociology, or (political) economy;

  • Proven experience (or at least affinity) with both quantitative and qualitative research methods;

Education:

  • Proof of excellence in academic teaching in the social sciences. Experience with student-centered education methods, such as Problem Based Learning, would be a plus;

  • A senior teaching qualification (or at least a basis teaching qualification and willing to obtain the senior qualification);

Leadership:

  • An inspiring personality, enabling her/him to provide leadership to the MISOC bachelor program;

  • Managerial experience, in particular coordinating and leading teaching and research programs;

  • The proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary field, both in terms of research and education;

Other:

  • Experience with acquiring research funding;

  • Full proficiency in the English language (at a minimum level of C1, according to the Common European Framework – and preferably C2), both oral and written, and a solid command of Dutch or the willingness to learn Dutch at a basic working level in three years’ time. This will be facilitated.

  • Intercultural (communication) skills, fitting to our increasingly international student population and working environment;

  • International experience and/or a clear international orientation, as well as a vision on international (research) cooperation and education.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: one year (with a two months trial period), but this may be converted into a permanent contract if your performance proves satisfactory.

Your initial employment term will be for one year (with a two months trial period), but this may be converted into a permanent contract if your performance proves satisfactory. Employment starts preferably no later than August 1st 2019.

Salary is subject to know-how and experience and corresponds to scale H2 CAO NU, which is between € 5.582 and € 8.127 gross per month on a full-time basis (38 hour per week; 1.0 fte).

Erasmus University Rotterdam offers attractive terms of employment, including a holiday allowance of 8%, a year-end payment of 8.3% and 41 annual leave days in case of a full work week. Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB)

The Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences is home to a vast diversity of scientific disciplines: public administration, pedagogical sciences, psychology and sociology. In addition, the Erasmus University College, IHS, and two research institutes RISBO and DRIFT are linked to the faculty.
