The Centre for International Conflict Analysis and Management (CICAM), part of the Political Science Department and the Nijmegen School of Management, is looking for a postdoctoral researcher.
As part of a larger mixed-method programme entitled ‘Non-violence Amid Violence’, which studies the roles of non-violent social movements during war and their contribution to peacebuilding, you will carry out a cross-country, quantitative analysis. Linking existing datasets, this analysis focuses on the relationship between the aims, strategies and outcomes of non-violent social movements on the one hand, and escalation or de-escalation, peace processes and political institutions on the other. The research project will yield two articles to be published in reputable peer-reviewed journals; in addition, the findings will provide input into qualitative case studies to be undertaken by other researchers.
Intended start date is 1 April 2019. Short-term availability would be an advantage.

Nijmegen School of Management
The Centre for International Conflict Analysis & Management (CICAM) is an academic research and educational institute based at Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Founded in 1965 and formerly known as the Peace Research Centre, CICAM is part of the Political Science Department at the Nijmegen School of Management (NSM). The institute is home to political scientists, historians and sociologists and has a cross-disciplinary approach. Its main tasks are conducting scientific research and offering education on peace and security issues as well as on war and conflict. CICAM research specialises in the analysis of contemporary violent conflicts and initiatives to promote and foster peace. CICAM researchers study these phenomena from the perspective of actors in conflict-affected countries themselves, while remaining cognisant of the embeddedness of local dynamics in national, international and transnational developments.
Radboud University’s Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is an academic centre of research and higher education focusing on institutional and managerial issues concerning complex organisations in both the public and private domains. It has seven disciplines: Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics and Business Economics, Social and Political Sciences of the Environment, Human Geography, and Spatial Planning. The NSM strives for a multidisciplinary approach whenever possible. It employs 265 FTEs, of whom 75% are academics, and currently caters to some 4,200 students.
The NSM’s research is embedded in the Institute for Management Research (IMR), an academic centre of expertise conducting research on the structure and performance of public and private organisations and institutions that regulate, govern and manage purposive action and interaction. IMR research aims to contribute to the understanding and improvement of the effectiveness, efficiency and legitimacy of organisational arrangements through which people try to structure and govern the complexity of the environments in which they operate. IMR’s aim is to combine and integrate theoretical perspectives from different disciplines in order to provide a richer understanding of international, societal and organisational phenomena, their complexity and their interrelatedness.
