The candidate will perform research, contribute to the teaching tasks, and share into other responsibilities of the Statistical Science Division of the Mathematical Institute.
Candidates with a background in the broad field of Statistical Science or Data Science, including psychometrics, biostatistics, and machine learning, are invited to apply, in particular candidates with a research interest that connects to research currently carried out in the institute.
Teaching duties in the Mathematical Institute are shared and rotate among the members of the institute. The candidate will be involved in particular with the master in Statistical Science for the Life and Behavioural Sciences and Data Science, and/or courses in statistics for other sciences or the Leiden University College.

The appointment will be at the level of assistant or associate professor. Appointment can be fixed term (two to four years) or for indefinite duration, at a level depending on the candidate. Also pending budgetary approval and excellent performance a position may be for fixed term or for undetermined duration. For exceptional candidates promotion to full professor is not excluded. Salary range from €3,637 to €6,738 gross per month (pay scale 11, 12 , 13 or 14), in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).

Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Science is a world-class faculty where staff and students work together in a dynamic international environment. The research carried out at the Faculty of Science is very diverse, ranging from mathematics, information science, astronomy, physics, chemistry and bio-pharmaceutical sciences to biology and environmental sciences. The Statistical Science section is one of four groups in the Mathematical Institute. It cooperates with other statisticians and data scientists at Leiden University in the Leiden University Institute of Statistical Science and in the Leiden Center of Data Science. Together with its partners in the Institute of Psychology, the Leiden University Medical Center, Wageningen University and the VU medical center, the Statistical Science group runs a master program in Statistical Science and Data Science.
