Job description

The Department of Economics opens a vacancy for a Lecturer. Our department, the Department of Economics (DoE), is part of the Tilburg School of Economics and Management, Tilburg University. The Economics Department at Tilburg University is one of the largest and most successful economics schools in Europe. The Department runs several active seminar series with speakers from top international schools, several annual conferences, and a visitor program with eminent scholars in economics. The DoE runs two Bachelor programs: Economics (ECO) and “Economie en Bedrijfseconomie” (EBE) and one MSc program Economics. The candidate will teach in all programs where needed. You will have the following main tasks: teaching in the BSc programs supported by the DoE (90% of time), research and writing (popular) scientific publications and other activities (10%).

Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague who has:

  • completed a PhD degree in Economics
  • experience with teaching,
  • good communication skills, including good writing skills and an interest in communicating research to the public. Dutch-speaking or the willingness to learn Dutch is valued
  • either completed the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) or is looking forward to complete it in the future.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: max. 5 years.

We offer a full-time temporary Lecturer position per 1 September 2019, part-time and fixed-term duration (up to max 5 years) are negotiable. The gross salary is minimally € 3,637 and maximally € 4,978 excluding vacation (8%) and end-of-year bonus (8,3%); this is the salary scale 11, fixed by the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities. The actual salary within this scale is dependent on the degree at entry. Should the applicant benefit from an extensive experience upon entry, the salary scale can be adjusted upwards.
