Maastricht, Working on Europe!

Studio Europa, which is at the heart of the Maastricht, Working on Europe programme, organizes citizen dialogs, lectures, debate nights, workshops, events, youth gatherings and podium programmes on science, culture and society from a relevant European perspective. We aim to reach a diverse audience and actively involve and work with a variety of partners, from citizens, cultural institutions, the government, to student initiatives, at a local, Eu-regional, national and international level.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative talent that complements and supports the core team of Studio Europa. As programme maker, you devise, develop and execute interesting and appealing programmes within the Studio Europa event calendar. You are a great networker, community connector and are creative in finding (new) forms to engage a diverse audience as well as connect people to our growing community. Overall, you contribute to and promote the implementation of the formulated strategical line, policy and targets of the Maastricht, Working on Europe programme.

Job description

  • As programme maker, you contribute to all levels of the Maastricht, Working on Europe events calendar by (co-)developing content and realizing public programmes in the field of science, culture and society that actively facilitates citizen dialogue and debate on topics of European integration;
  • You contribute to building the Studio Europa network: you initiate and maintain contact with guest speakers, citizens and potential collaborators, think about potential audiences and ways to actively involve and facilitate citizens, and are able to have a local and regional focus as well as an (inter)national focus;
  • You co-develop new programme forms that have a varied multidisciplinary nature and make creative use of social (new) media;
  • You participate as key player in various meetings which involve colleagues from all three partner organizations, working on the development and production of events, including communication and coordination;
  • You keep an eye on the implementation and realization of the trajectory and targets of your programmes and projects, and you frequently tune in with the managing director guarding the overall strategical line of the MWOE programme and the Events Coordinator you closely collaborate with, to share progress and interim results.

Requirements

  • You have a broad interest for societal engagement, culture and science and a good ‘nose’ for interdisciplinary perspectives and relevant and current European themes;
  • You know how to connect academic and social current issues with ethical perspectives;
  • You have relevant work experience, preferably as a programme maker;
  • You are communicative and proficient in Dutch and English;
  • You have knowhow of social / new media;
  • You are a great host and work well with and connect to a variety of people and organizations;
  • You are an excellent organizer that takes initiative;
  • You are able to periodically evaluate and contribute to the targets and policy goals formulated within the strategical lines of overarching ambition;
  • You are an energetic team player that flourishes in an entrepreneurial, dynamic and pioneering team;
  • You are able to be creative and connecting;
  • You are flexible, creative and independent;
  • You hold a relevant vocational bachelor (HBO) or university degree (WO);
  • You live in the surroundings of Maastricht or are willing to relocate.

The working hours are determined in consultation with evening or weekend work from time to time.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

Maastricht University offers a challenging job in an attractive international work environment within the Maastricht, Working on Europe project for one year with the prospect of extension based on the continuation of the project (which is anticipated) and after a positive assessment. The salary depends on the qualifications and experience of the candidate and ranges from €2.835 - €3.895 (scale 9) gross per month. In addition, there is an 8% holiday allowance and an 8,3% end-of year allowance. The terms of employment of Maastricht University are set out in the collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (CAO). Furthermore, local UM provision also apply. Contract type: Temporary. This position is open to both internal and external candidates. Employees with a permanent contract are also invited to apply.

Maastricht University is joining forces with the City of Maastricht and the Province of Limburg to further shape and strengthen the European profile of the city, the region and the university. Maastricht as a center for debate, critical dialog and discussion on Europe and being a European citizen. The Maastricht, Working on Europe programme aims at three core ambitions:

  • Develop Maastricht as a European center of excellence, renowned at home and abroad, with a leading European research agenda and prestigious study programmes. The go-to source for politicians, policymakers and the press when it comes to interpreting and advising on Europe;
  • Create Studio Europa as the physical workplace, an open place and platform where academics, students, residents and social entrepreneurs (incubator function facilitating start-ups) work and debate on Europe and engage with culture and the media;
  • Enhance the European profile of the city, region and university, bolstered by a full agenda of activities revolving around Europe and involving citizens, society, business, academia and media (e.g., debate nights, citizen dialogs, youth gatherings, cultural festivals and the Maastricht Europe Days.
