Job description

The Institute of Physics (IoP) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher with an interest in strongly correlated condensed matter theory, in particular the physics of ferroelectrics, multiferroics, and quantum criticality. The postdoc will join the ongoing collaboration between Dr Jasper van Wezel at the University Amsterdam and Dr Vadim Cheianov at Leiden University, funded by the Delta Institute for Theoretical Physics, focusing on transport properties of strongly correlated materials near a quantum critical point.

Specifications

University of Amsterdam (UvA)

Requirements

A PhD in Physics or an equivalent degree is required to be considered for this position. Knowledge of quantum criticality and advanced numerical skills is desirable. The candidate needs to possess excellent English communication skills. We encourage applications from underrepresented groups in STEM, focusing on transport properties of strongly correlated materials near a quantum critical point.

Conditions of employment

The appointment will be on a temporary basis for a period of 2 years.

Based on a full-time appointment (38 hours per week) the gross monthly salary will range from €2,709 to €4,274 gross per month. The Collective Labour Agreement (Cao) of Dutch Universities is applicable. Favourable tax agreement may apply to non-Dutch applicants.

Department

Institute of Physics

The Delta Institute for Theoretical Physics unites the existing institutes for theoretical physics of the University of Amsterdam, Leiden University, and Utrecht University. The associated scientists are determined to continue their tradition of scientific excellence by attacking the grand challenges of modern physics and by attracting a new generation of top talent. The Delta Institute for Theoretical Physics invites applications for a postdoctoral position to start in the Fall of 2019, in the groups of dr Jasper van Wezel (Amsterdam) and dr Vadim Cheianov (Leiden).

The postdoctoral position will be based at the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the University of Amsterdam. The Institute of Physics (IoP), one of the large research institutes of the faculty of Science at the University of Amsterdam, combines the Van der Waals-Zeeman Institute (WZI), the Institute of Theoretical Physics (ITFA) and the Institute for High Energy Physics (IHEF).
