Job description

As Assistant Professor of Accounting you will be part of the Chair of Business Economics at the department of Economics and Business Economics of the Nijmegen School of Management (Radboud University). The position includes both teaching and research tasks. You will provide high-quality courses in management accounting and/or financial accounting and reporting in the Bachelor’s programme in Business Economics and the Master’s programmes in Accounting and Control and Corporate Finance. You will also supervise Bachelor’s and Master‘s theses. Furthermore, you will conduct high-quality research in the field of financial and management accounting, corporate governance and control, corporate performance, and/or sustainability/integrated reporting.
 
The Chair of Business Economics covers the broad field of business economics but has a specific focus on governance, accounting and control in the setting of inter-organisational relations and networks. The emphasis is on fundamental theory-driven research using a mix of quantitative and qualitative methods. Specific research themes of the Chair of Business Economics include the effectiveness of corporate governance, quality of corporate financial and sustainability reporting, strategic performance and risk measurement and management, trust, control and governance in intra- and inter-firm relations, effectiveness of inter-firm relations, organisational learning and innovation.

Requirements

The applicant should meet the following criteria:

  • you have (or shortly expect to obtain) a PhD degree in Business Economics;
  • you are highly motivated and have the potential to build a record of excellence in both research and teaching in Business Economics in general and Management/Financial Accounting in particular;
  • an excellent record in academic teaching, as evidenced by good teaching evaluations, and a willingness to obtain a Junior University Teaching Certificate within the first four years of the contract;
  • with regard to research, you should have a pipeline of submissions, revise and resubmits and publications in leading international journals in the field of business economics;
  • experience with the acquisition of research funds is also highly valued;
  • excellent English language skills in oral and written communication.

Conditions of employment

  • employment: 0.8 - 1.0 FTE
  • a maximum gross monthly salary of € 4,978 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 11)
  • salary is dependent on experience and qualifications
  • in addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus
  • term of contract: six years (tenure track)
  • you will be classified as an Assistant Professor (universitair docent), Level 2 in the Dutch university job-ranking system (UFO)

Nijmegen School of Management
The Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is an academic centre of research and higher education, focusing on institutional and managerial issues within complex organisations in both the public and private domains. There are seven disciplines within the NSM: Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics and Business Economics, Social and Political Sciences of the Environment, Human Geography, and Spatial Planning. The NSM strives for a multidisciplinary approach where possible. Altogether, the NSM employs 265 FTEs, 75% of whom are academics.

Both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes are offered in the seven focus areas, which are organised in the NSM’s educational institute. The educational programme is characterised by small-scale teaching and provides a stimulating learning environment with an emphasis on the development of academic skills. The NSM currently has approximately 4,500 students. The NSM’s research activities fall under the responsibility of the interdisciplinary Institute for Management Research (IMR). Under the motto ‘Creating knowledge for society’, the IMR focuses on academic research into the development, design and effectiveness of the public and private structures that regulate, govern or manage human interactions.

The department of Economics and Business Economics consists of four Chairs: Economic Theory and Policy, International Economics, Finance, and Business Economics. The department is responsible for the development and quality of the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Economics, as well as for the courses in Economics in the other study programs offered by the faculty. What sets the Nijmegen curriculum in Economics apart is that it characterised by a multidisciplinary approach, whereby, in addition to the economics discipline, inspiration is sought from other areas.
