Job description

Research
As a Full Professor you will be initiating and supervising research in the field of accounting within the research theme ’Governance and Control in the Network Economy’ with reference to other research groups within the multidisciplinary setting of the Institute for Management Research (IMR). You will be expected to develop projects for external funding related to fundamental research at the IMR, in particular for financing PhD researchers. You will be actively involved in the supervision of PhD researchers. You will provide and apply a sound knowledge of modern methodology of quantitative and qualitative research. You will be expected to publish academic articles in prominent international journals in the field of accounting.

Education
You will be playing a prominent and exemplary role in the educational field of accounting, more specifically, supervising the development of attractive and high-quality education in this field. You will be expected to coordinate relevant subjects in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes of the department of Economics at the Nijmegen School of Management (Radboud University) and to develop and establish a postgraduate educational programme as part of the faculty’s Radboud Management Academy (RMa).

Management
You will be supervising associate and assistant professors and researchers in their teaching and research in the field of accounting. You will be expected to contribute to the management of education and research at the department of Economics and Business Economics, and fulfil managerial tasks at the departmental and faculty levels. Furthermore, you will provide an active and stimulating contribution to the continuous improvement, internationalisation and positioning of the faculty. You will be expected to represent the Chair and the field of study in inter-university consultations and in national and international networks in both education and research.

Requirements

You should meet the following criteria:
 

  • you have a PhD degree in the field of accounting or a related and clearly relevant field;
  • you have proven qualities in contributing to the international, academic debate in the field of accounting, preferably in management accounting, evidenced by publications in prominent international academic journals;
  • you have demonstrated thorough knowledge about recent theoretical and empirical developments (such as the use of big data) in accounting and related fields;
  • you have broad experience in supervising research projects and programmes, including supervising PhD researchers, and in initiating and supervising externally funded research;
  • you are able to attract external funding for research projects;
  • you have extensive teaching experience, proven effective teaching skills, the capacity to develop and implement innovative teaching methods, and a proven ability to supervise the development and implementation of academic study programmes;
  • you have demonstrated leadership skills in academic circles;
  • you are willing to work together with other Chairs in the department of Economics, to build up the department and to represent it at home and abroad;
  • you are willing to collaborate with Chairs in other disciplines at the NSM.

Conditions of employment

  • employment: 1.0 FTE
  • a maximum gross monthly salary of € 8,127 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale H2)
  • depending on experience and qualifications
  • in addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus
  • term of contract: an indefinite contract with an appointment as full professor initially for five year
  • Dutch university job-ranking system (UFO): Full Professor, Level 2

Department

Nijmegen School of Management
The Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is an academic centre of research and higher education, focusing on institutional and managerial issues within complex organisations in both the public and private domains. The NSM houses seven disciplines: Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics and Business Economics, Social and Political Sciences of the Environment, Human Geography, and Spatial Planning. The NSM strives for a multidisciplinary approach where possible. Altogether, the NSM employs 265 FTEs, 75% of whom are academic staff.
 
Both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes are offered in the seven focus areas, which are organised in the NSM’s educational institute. The study programmes are characterised by interactive teaching methods and stimulate students’ learning processes, particularly the development of academic skills. The Nijmegen School of Management currently has approximately 4,500 students. Its research activities fall under the responsibility of the interdisciplinary Institute for Management Research (IMR). Under the motto ‘Creating Knowledge for Society’, the IMR focuses on academic research into the development, design and effectiveness of the public and private structures that regulate, govern or manage human interactions.
 
The department of Economics and Business Economics consists of four Chairs: Economic Theory and Policy, International Economics, Finance, and Business Economics. The department is responsible for the development and quality of the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in economics, as well as for the courses in economics in the other study programmes offered by the faculty. What sets the Nijmegen curriculum in economics apart is that it is characterised by a multidisciplinary approach, whereby, in addition to the economics discipline, inspiration is sought from other areas.
