The Department of Data Science and Knowledge Engineering (DKE) at Maastricht University, the Netherlands, is looking for an excellent researcher (0.7 - 1.0 fte) in the area of Image/Video Processing and Computer Vision.

Job description

The successful applicant will be working in the challenging and cutting-edge fields of human activity recognition, visual tracking and crowd behavior analysis in indoors and outdoors environments. The position is embedded in the Affective and Visual Computing group of DKE (https://project.dke.maastrichtuniversity.nl/RAI/). The position is to be filled as soon as possible, the position is offered for the duration of 2 years.

The researcher will assist in research and technology integration and will gain significant experience in multidisciplinary European research projects. To that aim, she/he will work with other UM researchers, as well as research and industrial partners across Europe towards the development of automated video analysis algorithms for tracking, activity recognition and interpretation of individuals and crowds.

Requirements

  1. Excellent programming skills in Python, C/C++;

  2. Familiarity with OpenCV;

  3. Have (or should be close to completing) a Master’s degree in image/video processing, computer vision, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or a closely related field Exceptional candidates with a Bachelor’s degree might also be considered;

  4. Good/very good command of spoken and written English;

  5. High motivation, enthusiasm and ability to work in a team;

  6. Pre-knowledge and practical experience in software development and technical reporting;

  7. Good presentation, communication and organization skills.

Conditions of employment

We offer a 0.7 - 1.0 fte appointment as Researcher (Researcher 4) starting as soon as possible for a period of 2 years. Remuneration will be according to standard salary levels defined in the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities in scale level 10 (€ 2.709 - € 4.274), depending on qualifications and experience, plus 8% holiday and 8.3% year-end allowance (calculated based on the annual salary). A favourable tax agreement, the ‘30% ruling’, may apply to non-Dutch applicants.

The mentioned salaries are based on a 1,0 fte employment.
