The Utrecht University School of Governance (USG) is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Organisation Studies. For this position, we welcome candidates with a track record and a demonstrable potential to generate innovative theoretical and empirical knowledge on the changing dynamics of power and inequality in contemporary organisations. Relevant areas of expertise are diversity and inequality in contemporary work settings; diversity and equality-fostering policies; new technologies, occupational practices and control/resistance; emergent, alternative and diverse economic practices, business models and organisational forms; ethics, politics and organization; collective forms of resistance, activism, mobilization; and (collective) action and social change. Scholars working within critical traditions of thought are particularly encouraged to apply.

The appointed Assistant Professor will, together with colleagues, carry out research within his or her area of expertise. S/he has a broad background in Organisation Studies and is able to substantially contribute to the development and teaching of (parts of) courses in various pedagogical forms. The suitable candidate is open to multiple disciplinary approaches to contemporary organisational phenomena.

S/he is moreover part of international academic and practitioners’ networks relevant to her/his area of expertise, and will contribute to enhancing the visibility and the profiling of the Organisation Studies chair and USG within them. S/he is willing to contribute to seeking external funding to support the research activities of the research group and USG from the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and other revenues, like the European Union, non-governmental organisations, and the business sector.

The suitable candidate is able to:

• initiate and conduct research in the Organisation Studies research group contributing to the research programme of the USG;
• teach in various pedagogical forms at the bachelor and master levels in various programmes offered by the USG;
• give a substantial contribution to applications for research projects through, for instance, the NWO and EU funding;
• take up administrative tasks related to research and teaching activities in which s/he is involved.

To this end, the suitable candidate:

• has a PhD degree in Organisation Studies, Management or other relevant Social Science;
• has a passion for theoretically sound empirical research with high societal impact;
• has experience in teaching and a strong affinity with small-scale, intensive teaching;
• has expertise in qualitative research methods, and is open to multiple methodologies;
• has a starting publishing track record and the ambition to become a leading scholar in her/his domain in her/his area of expertise;
• is a team player combining commitment and a critical-constructive attitude toward the organisation, colleagues, and students;
• is a strong communicator who can engage different audiences;
• has a basic teaching qualification or is willing to acquire this qualification.

Experience with external funds acquisition is not required but an asset.

Experience in administrative roles (e.g. project management) is not required but an asset.

The salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranges from €3,637 to €5,656 (scale 11/12 according to the Collective Employment Agreement of the Dutch Universities) gross per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end allowance of 8.3% per year.
