Job description

The Department of Anthropology and Development Studies at Radboud University is looking for an Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology. This department is developing and implementing a new joint research and educational programme with a focus on the interrelations between cultural diversity and socio-economic inequality. The prospective assistant professor will be expected to contribute to this new research and teaching programme.
 
As Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology you will conduct ethnographic or mixed methods research contributing to or extending the department’s research, preferably focusing on issues emerging from the great debate about migration and integration in the Netherlands and/or other European societies. We are especially interested in innovative research into the problems that cultural diversity is considered to raise and what solutions are proposed by citizens, social movements and state institutions. The department’s research programme is a joint programme in anthropology and development studies. Hence you are expected to contribute to building bridges between these two disciplines.
 
You will teach courses in the Bachelor's degree programme in Anthropology and Development Studies and also contribute to the Master's degree programme. You will give lectures and seminars, and also supervise students preparing Bachelor's and Master's theses. Furthermore, there are opportunities for you to lecture in the interdisciplinary Research Master's programme in Social and Cultural Sciences.

Requirements

  • a doctoral degree (PhD) in Cultural or Social Anthropology;
  • a good track record of international publications;
  • a good track record of grants obtained will be an additional advantage;
  • teaching and supervision experience at Bachelor's and Master's levels;
  • enthusiasm for teaching;
  • university teaching qualification (or willingness to obtain this qualification);
  • a good proficiency in spoken and written English;
  • a good command of Dutch as teaching will be mainly in Dutch;
  • qualifications that meet the Faculty's publication criteria;
  • good social, communication and organisational skills, and the ability to collaborate with colleagues from different disciplines.

Conditions of employment

  • employment: 1.0 FTE
  • a maximum gross monthly salary of € 4,978 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 11)
  • the salary depends on qualifications and experience
  • in addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus
  • term of contract: upon positive evaluation after 2 years: tenured position
  • you will be classified as an Assistant Professor Level 2 (Universitair docent, niveau 2) in the Dutch university job-ranking system (UFO)
  • you will be able to make use of our Dual Career Service where our Dual Career Officer will assist with family related support, such as child care, and help your partner prepare for the local labour market and with finding an occupation

 
Intended start date is 1 July 2019.
