The Erasmus School of Philosophy is looking for: Tutors for the undergraduate programmes:

As a tutor at the Erasmus School of Philosophy you will be teaching tutorials for the Double Degree, Part-time and Full-time undergraduate programmes of philosophy. Your precise tasks will be defined in coordination with the lecturer of the specific courses, but they range from: teaching close-reading, leading class discussions, taking in-depth questions on specific texts, grading assignments or exams, assisting teachers organizing courses etc.

The position will be for 0,25-0,5 FTE (4-8 courses in a year). You will be contracted under the CAO (collective labor agreements) in salary scale 10, increment 0. The position is for at least one year, with a possible extension of another year. And also after that, under strict conditions, another two year extension is possible.

Responsibilities:

-          Grasping, understanding and being able to explain complex philosophical problems and texts;

-          Coordination with the lecturer on the content and format of the tutorial;

-          Leading and teaching tutorials ranging from 10-25 students;

-          Assisting the lecturer with the assessment of students.

A tutorship at the Erasmus School of Philosophy is an interesting experience in both gaining a further understanding of the material treated in the bachelor programmes and teaching this material to small classes of students. It could be the first step in a further academic career.

We offer both training before and during the year. This training will include a kick-off day, supervision by senior tutors and several evaluations and group meetings during the year. However, we do not offer a set trajectory after a tutorship position; there is not a PhD position tied to this job.

Minimum requirements:

-          A (Double Degree) bachelor or master in Philosophy;

-          A good command of English;

-          Being able to ‘own the room’;

-          Previous experience with leading tutorials (preferred).

This position comes with good employment conditions, compliant with the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (CAO NU). The position begins with a temporary employment contract for a year in which the candidate’s suitability is evaluated. You will be contracted under the CAO (collective labor agreements) in salary scale 10, increment 0, € 2709,-,. The position is for at least one year, with a possible extension of another year. And also after that, under strict conditions, another two year extension is possible.
