The division of Drug Discovery and Safety applies high throughput screening in combination with quantitative systems biology approaches to understand the dynamics of cellular responses in relation to drug action related to anticancer therapy as well as adverse drug reactions. We apply high content imaging to determine the dynamic activity of individual signalling events at single cell level in 2D and 3D models. High throughput transcriptomics is used to determine signalling pathway activation and distinguish pharmacological and toxicological mode of action as well as human variability. RNA interference screens, pharmacological modulation and genetic engineering approaches are applied to uncover functional roles of candidate modulators of drug outcome. The work is related to understanding of cancer progression and drug resistance as well as adverse drug reactions related to liver and kidney injury. The investigations are part of (inter)national research programs.

The assistant professor will scientifically contribute to the above research in the division and develop bioinformatics tools and approaches for data acquisition, management and analysis as well as support and guide both undergraduate and graduate students with their bioinformatics work. The assistant professor should contribute to the acquisition of research grants. The candidate will also actively contribute to the BSc and MSc program of Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences, involving the coordination of teaching modules and supervision of internship research projects.

• A PhD in bioinformatics, systems biology or relevant bio-medical sciences background;

We offer a full-time, 1 year term position, with the possibility of 3 year  renewal based on need, funding and performance. Salary range from € 3.637,-  to  € 4.978,-  gross per month (pay scale 11 in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities).
