Job description

You will be involved in organizing and improving the PhD process, referring to the process of a PhD student starting at ESE all the way to placement on the job market and everything in between.

You share responsibility for the recruitment and selection of new PhD candidates, support them during their training, and guide newly promoted candidates into the labour market (placement).  You are their source of support and will provide and develop activities so they can excel in what they do. You are in close contact with the research schools (ERIM and Tinbergen Institute) and jointly agree on what needs to be done to give PhD students optimum support in their process. You will also be in close contact with the supervisors of the PhD students during their promotion trajectory.

In addition, you and your colleagues will focus on developing, implementing and adjusting policy in the field of PhD research, in conjunction with the strategy of the faculty and the university as a whole. You are a sparring partner for the head of the team, with whom you will work closely together where policy is concerned.

Lastly, you are the key contact for all internationals within the faculty and will support them in the case of any queries and challenges they may encounter, as well as refer them appropriately within the EUR organization.

A fun, challenging and diverse position with room to develop yourself and learn!

Meet your colleagues:

As PhD officer you are part of the Research Office of Erasmus School of Economics and as such work closely within a team of immediate colleagues. The Research Office is managed by the Dean of Research. Requirements

You are customer-oriented, organizationally strong and communicative: in addition to the responsibilities for the current PhD process, further improvement of this process is also in good hands with you. You empathize with the needs of the PhD students and organize what is needed to recruit and guide the best candidates. You are strongly internationally oriented and you are able to report on (international) developments in the field of research, education and quality assurance.  You are quick to master new information and quickly oversee processes. You have strong communication skills (writing and speaking) and you like a challenge in terms of strategy and policy issues. You like to take initiative and are capable of working independently. You like interaction with people.

You have completed a scientific training, e.g. in the field of communication or social sciences, and preferably gained earlier experience in working in a university environment. You have at least 2 years of work experience. You speak both Dutch and English flawlessly: communicating and writing texts in both languages pose no problems for you. Your command of English is at least C1 level.

Conditions of employment

A great opportunity to join an enthusiastic team, and to start working for an international target group at an ambitious faculty. You have a varied role and will deal directly with PhD students, cooperating organizations and colleagues. No two days are alike and you are continually challenged.  What we can offer you:

  •  A challenging job with nice colleagues
