The amsterdam Law School has a vacancy for an Assistant professor in European Private Law.

The assistant professor will be part of the lively and supportive intellectual environment of the Centre for the Study of European Contract Law and its cooperation platform Law and Justice Across Borders.

• Teach, coordinate and assist in developing courses at undergraduate and graduate level;
• supervise theses at undergraduate and graduate level;
• assist in developing experiential learning elements for Private law courses within the context of the Amsterdam Law Practice;
• work as part of a team;
• carry out and publish research of the highest calibre;
• assist in supervising research at doctoral level;
• communicate effectively;
• participate constructively in the administrative work at the Law School;
• actively participate in the research activities of the CSECL and Law and Justice Across Borders.

The successful candidate:

• has a PhD in law or is in the last stages of finishing up her/his dissertation;
• is specialized in the field of European private law;
• is proficient in English and has a willingness to learn Dutch;
• has excellent scientific writing, planning and communication skills;
• has experience in teaching, ideally both at graduate and undergraduate level;
• has a strong motivation both to teach and to do research;
• qualifies for additional research time under the standard of the research priority area (criteria may be requested by email).

The appointment will be for the period of 5 years, with an initial probation period of 1 year. The starting date of the appointment is as soon as possible.

The gross full-time monthly salary will be in accordance with the salary scales for Assistant professors at Dutch universities, scale 11 (Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities) ranging from €3,637 to €4,978 gross per month (full-time equivalent). Secondary benefits at Dutch universities are attractive and include 8% holiday pay and an 8.3% end-of-year Bonus.

Amsterdam Law School
