The Department of Law, Technology, Markets and Society (LTMS) – home of TILT and TILEC has a vacancy for a Post-doc (full time for 2 years). We are looking for someone who can make a vital contribution to the quality of our research and teaching activities. The selected candidate is expected to contribute to TILEC’s world-leading research in the field and evolve in an interdisciplinary academic environment. An early record in the interaction of economic law with innovation, digitalization, standardization and/or data science will be an asset.

The holder of the position will have the following functions:

Research (0.7 fte)

• Actively contribute to the operationalization of TILEC’s research program on the governance of economic activity in the digital age. For this position, TILEC is particularly interested in candidates with a proven record in the interaction of economic law, standardization and innovation in Europe.
• Pursue academically path-breaking research leading to excellent publications, in terms of originality, significance and rigor, as measured by international standards.
• Engage in the dialogue between law and economics, especially through the elaboration and production of interdisciplinary research.
• Be an active member of TILEC by participating in and organizing TILEC events and activities, presenting and discussing research output within TILEC, and representing TILEC outside Tilburg University.
• Offer a track record of – or a clear potential for – seeking and obtaining funding opportunities to support one’s own research and, if applicable, work on contract research autonomously or jointly with other TILEC members.

Teaching (0.3 fte)

• Teach and coordinate courses at the undergraduate and/or LLM programs that LTMS is involved in.
• Cooperate with other LTMS members in developing new or modifying existing courses.
• Coordinate and contribute to the supervision of bachelor and master theses.
• Assist in the everyday supervision of PhD theses.

Applicants must:

• Hold a doctoral degree in Law (PhD), or at least have submitted the manuscript of their dissertation with the approval of their supervisorbefore the start date.
• Have a research interest and expertise in the broader areas of the TILEC research program with a distinct focus on economic regulation, as evidenced by their PhD, publications and other activities. Early record of interdisciplinary research (law and economics, empirical research, experimental research, etc.) would be an asset.
• Be interested in (and preferably used to) working in an interdisciplinary environment with other legal scholars and economists and develop joint or independent applications for competitive grants.
• Have demonstrated ability – or strong potential – to produce and publish research at international/world-leading levels of excellence. Early published work in the broader fields of regulation, innovation and standardization in the ICT, health or energy sectors would be an asset.
• Be able to deliver high-quality undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching in law, including in general EU law.
• Be able to undertake certain administrative duties autonomously and preferably have some experience in undertaking such duties (e.g. organization of workshops, management of projects, etc).
• Be able and willing to work in a team and undertake administration tasks.
• Be proactive and accountable, able to prioritize across responsibilities, and manage varied commitments.
• Have excellent interpersonal, as well as strong and effective communication skills.
• Have perfect command of English. Knowledge of Dutch would be an asset, but is not required.
• Be available to start working as soon as possible and no later thanSeptember 2019.
• Be present at Tilburg University during working hours, and commit to integrate in the environment provided by LTMS and the Tilburg Law School.

Fixed-term contract: for 2 years.

The appointment will be for a fixed period of two years. Depending on the candidates’ experience and qualifications, the starting gross salary will vary between € 3,637 and € 4,978 per month (full time) based on scale 11 of the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) Dutch Universities.

About TILEC

The Tilburg Law and Economics Center (TILEC), a joint research center of the Tilburg Law School and the Tilburg School of Economics and Management, is a Center of Excellence at Tilburg University (TiU). Interdisciplinarity between law and economics is a key distinctive feature of TILEC, widely recognized and valued inside and outside Tilburg University. TILEC gathers economists and legal scholars to perform academically path-breaking and societally relevant research on the governance of economic activity.
