AMOLF

About AMOLF

AMOLF performs leading research on the fundamental physics and design principles of natural and man-made complex matter. The research of AMOLF provides fundamental insights on topics such as the nanoscale interaction of light and matter, the programmable properties of mechanical metamaterials, and the molecular mechanisms underlying cellular function. AMOLF leverages these insights to create novel functional materials, and to find solutions to societal challenges in, for instance, renewable energy, green ICT, and health care.

The research program of AMOLF consists of four intertwined research themes:

  • Nanophotonics: controlling light using nanostructured systems
  • Nanophotovoltaics: improving solar cells with nanomaterials
  • Designer Matter: studying and designing new smart materials
  • Living Matter: researching biomaterials and multi cellular systems

AMOLF is part of the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and employs about 130 researchers and 75 employees for technical and administrative support. Researchers at AMOLF work in an environment that fits their needs very well. One of the contributing factors to the attractive work environment is a strong focus on education and training.

AMOLF is located at the Amsterdam Science Park, in close proximity to the University of Amsterdam and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Are you seeking a challenging job in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment? AMOLF regularly has vacancies for postdocs, PhDs, technicians, and internships. More information about working at AMOLF: amolf.nl/work-at
