Whether you are working in Utrecht or at one of the NWO Institutes as a scientist you will be officially be employed by  NWO-I.  The conditions of employment of NWO-I are laid down in the Collective Labour Agreement for Research Centres (Cao-Onderzoekinstellingen) . 

Within these conditions individual agreements are also possible. For example, via the 'Personalised Conditions of Employment' employees can purchase additional leave or exchange days of leave for additional salary. Check out the NWO-I website for more information on this and don't forget the special section for foreigners.

NWO-I has developed a training and supervision plan specifically for PhD students. In this, PhD students and (associate) supervisors record in writing what the PhD student shall do. They evaluate this document each year. The plan also contains agreements about items such as the attendance of courses.

NWO-I has a specific package of courses for PhD students. A few examples are: The Art of Presenting Science, the Business Orientation Week and the Career Planning. NWO-I also makes a contribution to the costs of printing the PhD thesis.
