Job description

The StudioLab is a design research community of the Faculty of Industrial Design. It has about 60 members from staff, students, and guests. This include professors, lecturers, research staff, PhD and MSc students. The StudioLab hosts research from different groups at the Department of Human Centered Design and aims to promote cross-pollination between projects, between research and education, between making and thinking and between theory and design. In the center of the StudioLab there is a makerspace with facilities for tinkering with material and interactive technology. This space also houses the technical staff taking care of the technical aspects of StudioLab projects.

The position is for a new employee as a member of the technical staff of the Studiolab. The technical staff provides support for solving problems with technology, aides in the design and realisation of prototypes intended for use in education and research. In addition the technical staff takes care of the daily operation of the makerspace, to eg. keep the equipment operational and the space organised

Requirements

  • Basic skills with micro electronics, the applicant has experience making simple electronic circuits and is familiar with the Arduino eco system.
  • Basic skills coding, the applicant has experience developing code for embedded application with Arduino embedded systems (or similar style microcontrollers).
  • Basic skills working with desktop and server oriented systems (Windows, Macos, Linux).
  • The applicant should be willing to acquire more advanced skills in any of the above.
  • Participate in our makers lab, the applicant is willing to take the lead in organising the lab together with colleagues and students.
  • The applicant has an affinity with Industrial Design, is service oriented, willing to help colleagues and students with technical issues and when making interactive systems.   

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 12 maanden.

  • A salary based on UFO profile education and research officer 1-3 with scale 8-10 of the CAO for Dutch Universities with a minimum of (€ 3072,-) and a maximum of (€ 5090,-) gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
