Are you a student at the University of Amsterdam and are you looking for a challenging job in a dynamic team? The Amsterdam Wax-Resin Project, part of the department on the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage of the Faculty of Humanities is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced student assistant.
In January 2025, the department of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage (C&R) at the UvA will host the workshop The Dutch Method Unfolded #2. It is a program on wax-resin lining targeted to conservation specialists. It is funded by the Getty Foundation as part of its Conserving Canvas grant initiative. The program is two-fold; it is composed of an 8-day international masterclass to be held in Amsterdam in January 2025 and a standard publication on wax-resin lining. Both components aim at filling significant gaps in knowledge and experience that persist in the fields of conservation and art history to this day.
The masterclass focuses on increasing the practical experience of the participants in relation with wax-resin lining and stimulating self-reflection on their current approach to the conservation of wax-resin lined paintings. The masterclass consists of an 8-day workshop in Amsterdam during which the participants will partake in practical sessions and group discussions, examining historical paintings in collections of Dutch museums, and contributing to peer-presentation sessions. In addition, to prepare for the workshop, the participants will be introduced to the topic by field experts through 20 prerecorded lectures. Prior to the workshop, the participants will also fill-in two questionnaires online and record a brief video to introduce themselves.
As the student assistant, you will be involved in the organization and preparation of the masterclass.
What are you going to do? The student assistant will help Emilie Froment, the project leader, to coordinate the masterclass as part of The Dutch Method Unfolded #2.
Tasks and responsibilities: - Communicate with the participants, guest lecturers, project partners and students for the organization and preparation of the workshop;
- Help the participants and the guest lecturers to organise their travels to Amsterdam (information on hotels and transportations);
- Up-date the website with relevant documents.
- Keep track of the submitted presentations of participants and lecturers;
- Time the videos as part of the online program;
- Book lecture rooms, a photographer, transportation and other facilities for the workshop events;
- Help in the preparation of educational documents for the masterclass participant (schedule, list of abstracts, excursion guides, workshop guide);
- Documentation of the masterclass and post on social media;
- After the masterclass, assist with the evaluation and documentation;
- Help with organise the internship of an MIT student.
