Job description

We offer a position for an associate professor (UHD) level in human cell models within the UMC Utrecht. To this end, the associate professor will work together with others to accelerate the development of human cell models for diseases by focusing on genetically engineering these models and by making next generation complex organ-on-a-chip or organoid models.

We are looking for a biomedical researcher trained in molecular cell biology with an excellent track record in innovative iPSC-based models for human disease and with expertise in state-of-the-art genome editing and molecular engineering of these models. The project is funded by the Governmental Sector Money and aims to strengthen the UMC Utrecht human cell model for disease research community. The candidate will closely interact with researchers working on the milestones of the Centre for Animal-Free Biomedical Translation, which is a new center at the Utrecht Science park that is made possible by a recent €124,5 million investment of The Dutch National Growth Fund.

Your research interest should fit into the strategic research program of the UMC Utrecht Brain, Circulatory Health, or Regenerative Medicine and Stem cells Research Centers.

Requirements

  • A PhD in a relevant field (Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology) and proven expertise in iPSC-modelling for human diseases.
  • >5 years of relevant work experience in iPSC modelling.
  • A proven record of attracting competitive (inter)national grants.
  • The candidate should be self-motivated, accountable, inquisitive, and have excellent organization and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Possess the ability to present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Professional proficiency in English (written and spoken) is a requirement.
  • Ability to think analytically, problem-solving skills, drive to succeed.
  • You enjoy working in an innovation driven, highly collaborative and fast paced environment.
  • You should be able to work independently as well as collaborate with other team members with interdisciplinary background and international environment; you have essential social skills for fruitful interactions.

Department

The position is embedded within the UMC Utrecht and depending on your research focus you will work in the department of Translational Neurosience, department of Experimental Cardiology, or at the Center for Regenerative Medicine. In addition to this embedding, the candidate will closely collaborate with other UMC Utrecht groups working on human cell models for disease.
