Job description

  • Conduct and oversee large animal experiments, with a specific emphasis on cardiac gene therapy interventions;
  • Perform molecular biology techniques, including DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, Western blotting, and gene expression analysis;
  • Collaborate closely with researchers to design and execute experiments, troubleshoot technical issues, and analyze data;
  • Maintain accurate and detailed experimental records in compliance with research protocols and regulatory standards;
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of experimental protocols and methodologies;
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in the field of cardiac gene therapy and molecular biology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., veterinary medicine, biology, biochemistry, molecular biology);
  • Proven experience in conducting (large) animal experiments, preferably in the context of cardiovascular research (article 9 or 13f.2);
  • Strong proficiency in molecular biology techniques and laboratory skills;
  • Familiarity with relevant equipment and instrumentation;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team;
  • Effective communication skills, also in English, written and verbal;
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant laboratory environment.

Conditions of employment

  • One-year contract with the prospect of a permanent contract.
  • Classification in salary scale 8b: € 3.401 tot € 4.816 Gross for full-time employment (depending on education and experience).

This research is carried out within the Boink research group, part of the department of Medical Biology. We are an active and enthusiastic research group of around 10 people, basic researchers, biologists, clinicians, technicians, PhD students and students. We have active collaborations with various partners within the Netherlands and on an international level. Substantial parts of the work described, especially the large animal studies, will take place on the Utrecht Science Park, in collaboration with the UMC Utrecht.
