Job description

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the education landscape by providing unprecedented opportunities to enhance learning and teaching processes. At the same time, it challenges existing pedagogical approaches and assessment strategies. This PhD project aims to explore the profound impact of generative AI on biomedical education.

The successful candidate will conduct comprehensive research, including reviewing existing literature to understand the current landscape and historical impact of generative AI in biomedical education. The project will investigate how generative AI can be integrated into teaching strategies, identify the necessary skills for both students and educators, evaluate the impact of these technologies on teaching and learning outcomes, assess how generative AI affects assessment strategies, and explore its implications for equity in education.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in a relevant domain, such as educational sciences, biomedical sciences or computer science.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Interest in AI technologies and their application in education.
  • Engaged, flexible, perseverance, and can work well in a team.
  • Good communication skills in Dutch, both written and verbal.
  • Humor is a pre.

Conditions of employment

The maximum salary for this position (32 - 36 hours) is € 3.824,00 gross per month based on full-time employment.

In addition, we offer an annual benefit of 8.3%, holiday allowance, travel expenses and career opportunities. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Cao University Medical Centers (UMC).

Department

The PhD student will be appointed at the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the Education Center UMC Utrecht, a team of about 25 employees focused on policy, innovation, and educational research. This project is a close collaboration between the Bachelor and Master’s programmes of Biomedical Sciences of Utrecht University, located at the University Medical Center Utrecht.
