Job description

The DMB research group is looking for highly motivated and talented PhD candidates. The position is under the supervision of Dr. Estefania Talavera and focuses on the design, development and application of multimodal computer vision frameworks for video analysis with a focus on human behaviour understanding.

You will work on original research multimodal learning and video analysis exploring its application in human behaviour understanding. In particular, you will develop novel algorithms for perceived emotion recognition through the multimodal analysis of verbal and non-verbal social communication cues of individuals who appear in videos. In doing so, you will collaborate with a team of experts in computer vision, machine learning, and related fields.

Requirements

  • You are an enthusiastic and highly motivated researcher with a genuine interest in this field of research.
  • You hold a MSc degree in computer science, mathematics, or equivalent.
  • You have a good team spirit and like to work in an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented environment.
  • You are proficient in English.
  • Experience working with deep learning libraries such as Pytorch/Tensorflow is a plus.

Conditions of employment

  • As a PhD candidate at UT, you will be appointed to a full-time position for four years, with a qualifier in the first year, within a very stimulating and exciting scientific environment;

  • You will receive a gross monthly salary ranging from € 2.901,- (first year) to € 3.707,- (fourth year);
  • There are excellent benefits including a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, and a solid pension scheme;
  • A minimum of 232 leave hours in case of full-time employment based on a formal workweek of 38 hours. A full-time employment in practice means 40 hours a week, therefore resulting in 96 extra leave hours on an annual basis.
