Job description

We are looking for a colleague with enthusiasm for Research Data Management (RDM) and privacy in academic research. This position will be a temporary replacement of one of the two Data Steward positions at the Amsterdam institute for Social Science Research (AISSR). The period of replacement will start in March and end in October (or as otherwise agreed). The ideal candidate preferably has an affinity with data management, the privacy aspects of conducting research and enjoys supporting the academic staff. Previous experience will be appreciated but is not required. In this position you will work in close collaboration with other support staff within the AISSR and you will be supervised by the other AISSR data steward.

The period of replacement will start in March and end in October (or as otherwise agreed) and will be for 15-30 hours per week depending on candidate availability and assigned tasks.

What are you going to do
The AISSR Data Steward coordinates and supports processes around Research Data Management (RDM). For this task the Data Steward works closely with other support staff within the AISSR and the institute's academic staff.

For this replacement position tasks will include:
  • Conducting RDM and privacy reviews of research projects. This is an element of the institute’s ethics approval procedure and part of the monthly project reviews of the AISSR Ethics Advisory Board;
  • Providing information about RDM and related topics to researchers when necessary;
  • Assisting in drafting RDM plans for research projects;
  • Assisting in preparing documents for drafting privacy contracts between UvA and partners;
  • Providing advice on systems and software tools which can be used for data management and analysis;
  • Assisting the other AISSR data steward in ensuring compliance with AISSR RDM protocols, based on the faculty's and university's policies and guidelines;
  • Assisting researchers in choosing storage systems and software tools.

You will work in this department
The AISSR, which is part of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FMG), researches the foundation and functioning of contemporary societies and their interrelationships from historical, comparative and empirical perspectives. The institute unites the Political Science, Human Geography, Planning and International Development, Sociology and Anthropology departments. The AISSR provides post-graduate supervision to PhD students and is a high-quality research organisation, as reflected in its clear academic mission and excellent research programmes, within which research groups from the Netherlands and abroad work together on important societal themes.
