Job description

Are you just as excited as we are about the fascinating world of microorganisms, and how they can help us improving human, animal and environmental health? As a technical manager with experience in microbiome research, you will be part of the UNLOCK facility that enables innovative research on microbial communities. Are you our new colleague?

As Technical Manager you will work in a dynamic team of motivated researchers, technicians and students that are developing and applying state of the art research tools to investigate the occurrence and functioning of microorganisms in interaction with each other and their environment.

Your activities will include, among others:
  • coordinating and facilitating the research that will be done in the facilities of the UNLOCK Biodiscovery platform;
  • contact with internal and external users; advise on experimental design and downstream analyses;
  • contact with suppliers, including arrangements for maintenance of equipment;
  • opportunities for being involved in educational activities and applications for research grants at the Laboratory of Microbiology

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate that has:
  • a Higher Education degree (Bsc) or equivalent;
  • experience with setting up and executing molecular and cultivation-based research on microbial communities;
  • very good communication and presentation skills;
  • the ability to work in international and multidisciplinary research teams.

In our international working environment there is a large amount of communication in English. For this position, proficient user it is about language level C2.

Conditions of employment

Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment. A few highlights from our Collective Labour Agreement include:

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between €3.218 and €4.298 for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 8). Additionally, a contract for 24 hours a week can be discussed. As for your contract, we initially offer a one-year contract that can be extended - if possible within (company) organizational circumstances - on good performance.
