Were you always fascinated by the science and technology of photonics and at the same time preferred a hands-on, practical approach in your work? Would you like to contribute to managing and creating new experimental setups, work with researchers on state-of-the-art instruments to gather data for cutting-edge photonics research? Then you should read on and consider applying for this vacancy.
Job DescriptionThe Photonic Integration (PHI) research group as part of the Electrical Engineering Department performs research and education in the field of integrated photonics. Our research is aimed at finding innovative solutions to the challenges in sensing, computation and information transport with photonics. This
video tells you more about the role of integrated photonics today and in the future. We cover the complete range of activities from the design, simulation, fabrication up to characterization and measurement of photonic devices and circuits. In addition, the PhI group plays a key role in the photonics education programs at TU/e and has intensive links to industrial partners, among others ASML, Prodrive, Microsoft and PhotonFirst.
Due to recent collaborations in several larger research and development projects, the group is growing and with that the amount of measurement activities as well.
Therefore, we are looking for someone to fill in a technical staff position supporting the measurement activities. Your role is to manage, maintain and extend the measurement facilities of the group. For that, you will be optimizing existing procedures and devising new methods to provide setup sharing and measurement access to group members. Furthermore, you are expected to skill-up, if needed, in basic photonic device characterization and support fellow researchers in building up specialized experimental setups. Lab activities will involve working with test and measurement setups, and the use of software such as python. The position involves frequently interacting with technicians, PhD and professors from other fields.
Responsibilities include:
- maintenance of the setups and the measurement lab
- maintain inventory of lab equipment and source new equipment
- extend existing lab courses and create new measurement based education activities
- introduce and guide students and researchers in safety related topics and performing measurement tasks
- provide support with BSc and MSc courses taught by the group, and assist in lab supervision
You will be part of measurement lab committee, chaired by an academic staff member and consisting of experienced PhD and postdoc researchers. You will represent the group for faculty activities such as safety and technical committees, visits and and exhibits.
