In this position you will have the opportunity to work within different and exciting ongoing projects that relate to generation of blood stem cells and platelet producing cells. Interested? continue reading!

About Sanquin
The mission of Sanquin is: “Together with the donor we ensure a better life for patients”.

Sanquin is a knowledge-driven, not-for-profit organization that supplies life-saving products and services, as well as involved in blood transfusion medicine-(and immunology) related research. The research is performed by a dedicated staff and it is focused around four medical priorities: Anemia, Bleeding and Hemostasis, Infection and Immunity and Immunotherapy.

Sanquin’s research portfolio is divided into strategic research (ranging from basic to applied and clinical research) and product/process development. We are currently looking for a highly motivated Junior in vivo research Technician, who will be working in different projects focusing on blood stem cells and platelet producing cells, called megakaryocytes. You will provide general support for several in vivo experiments related to stem cell transplantation, small chirurgical procedures, cellular interaction models and also manage logistics and record-keeping.

The department
You will be based in the medical priorities Anemia and Bleeding and Hemostasis; both consist of several research groups that are interested in a wide-range of blood-related topics – from understanding the biology underlying different stem cell populations, to megakaryopoiesis, erythropoiesis and the bone marrow microenvironment (niche). You will be working in the laboratories of two Junior Group Leaders. First, the Stem Cell Biology laboratory (Dr. Svendsen) which focusses on understanding the molecular mechanisms that are required for generating and maintaining hematopoietic stem cells. Second, the Megakaryopoiesis laboratory (Dr. Tilburg) that studies the influence of the bone marrow niche on platelet production. In order to address our research questions, we routinely employ cell culture techniques, flow cytometry, bioinformatics and image-based techniques as well.

We organize weekly scientific meetings, journal clubs and work discussions to gain scientific input and to exchange knowledge. Sanquin provides a lively, internationally-oriented, scientific environment with excellent facilities where we strive to cultivate an inclusive and empowering community.

  • Colony Management: Assist on establishing, maintaining, breeding and maintaining different lines;

  • Hold either an Article 9 or 12 certificate.
  • At least one year of related experience;
