Job description

At Amsterdam UMC, our group study the interplay between the immune system and cancer. In particular, we are interested on the antigen-presenting cells (APCS)-T cell axis within the tumor microenvironment (TME). We evaluate how these immune cells interact in the TME to better understand the lack of clinical response in some patients.

We are seeking a dedicated and organized Research Technician to join our team.
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cell biology techniques, particularly in tissue sample processing and (immune) cell culture. Basic knowledge of flow cytometry is desired.
  • This role requires both independent and collaborative work, where your expertise will directly contribute to innovative research projects.

You will be involved in the planning, execution and analysis of lab experiments such as:
  • Tissue dissociation and processing of clinical cancer samples
  • Culture of cancer and immune cells
  • Preparation of samples (collection, staining, etc) for (imaging)-flow cytometry analysis
  • Flow cytometry measurements and data analysis
  • Preparation of samples for single-cell sequencing analysis

In addition to the lab work, you will be expected to:
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, while also managing individual projects
  • Assist in troubleshooting experiments and optimizing protocols
  • Participate in lab meetings and contribute to research discussions

Requirements

  • (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or a related field). Completed bachelor’s degree in Higher Laboratory Education/Biology and Medical Laboratory Research/comparable
  • Proven experience with tissue culture and cell biology techniques
  • Experience in flow cytometry
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills (English)

Preferred qualifications
  • Previous experience in a research laboratory
  • Knowledge of tissue culture and flow cytometry

Conditions of employment

  • You will be employed by Amsterdam UMC Research BV.
  • A contract for 12 months (extension for 12 months is possible, subject to funding).
  • Salary scale 7M: € 2.975 to € 4.214 gross based on full-time employment (depending on education and experience) and a year-end bonus of 8.3%. Calculate your net salary here.
  • Holiday hours: 190,4 per year for fulltime and a possibility to save additional hours.
  • Pension accrual with BeFrank, a modern, comprehensible and fairly priced pension.
