A better future for everyone. This ambition motivates our scientists in executing their leading research and inspiring teaching. At
Utrecht University, the various disciplines collaborate intensively towards major
strategic themes. Our focus is on Dynamics of Youth, Institutions for Open Societies, Life Sciences and Pathways to Sustainability.
Sharing science, shaping tomorrow.
Working at the Faculty of Science means bringing together inspiring people across disciplines and with a variety of perspectives and backgrounds. The
Faculty has six departments: Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Information & Computing Sciences, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Together,
we work on excellent research and inspiring education. We do so, driven by curiosity and supported by outstanding infrastructure. Visit us on

The position is financed by the NWO Gravitation programme Advanced Nano-Electrochemistry Institute Of The Netherlands (ANION), and the project is a collaboration between the
Soft Condensed Matter & Biophysics (SCMB) group and the
Materials Chemistry and Catalysis (MCC) group, which are both part of the
Debye Institute for Nanomaterials Science. The SCMB group studies the physics of soft matter model systems in order to generate new mesostructured materials from these insights. The MCC group focuses on the synthesis, characterisation and performance of supported catalysts. These allow efficient chemical conversions (and hence decrease the use of energy and raw materials), but are also essential to allow the transformation from fossil to renewable fuels, and optimize the performance of battery materials.
ANION is a national consortium with nodes in Leiden, Amsterdam, Groningen, Twente, and Utrecht. The local ANION team at Utrecht University consists of researchers from the Debye Institute for Nanomaterials Science (DINS) and the Institute for Theoretical Physics (ITP): Professor Petra de Jongh, Dr Peter Ngene, Dr Marijn van Huis, Dr Ben Erné (all DINS), and Professor René van Roij (ITP). You will strengthen this team, together with two ANION-funded PhD candidates at Utrecht University, and by other ANION consortium members elsewhere in the Netherlands. The postdoctoral project will be supervised by Dr Marijn A. van Huis (SCMB), Dr Peter Ngene and Professor Petra de Jongh (MCC).
