Job description

Are you interested in contributing to a global constitution for a more just and sustainable world? Do you have experience with qualitative data analysis, data and project management and website design? Then we would like you to apply!

Student Assistant for Research Project on a Global Constitution
Your work as Student Assistant would include managing communications with the public, supervising, analyzing and processing the contributions by the public (mainly essays) and maintaining the website. Our preferred starting date is 1 April 2025.

What are you going to do
  • Supervising the collection and organization of essays.
  • Analyzing and processing incoming essays and thereby contributing to the development of the draft Global Constitution.
  • Managing and updating the project website (WordPress).
  • Handling communications, including outreach and collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Assisting with administrative and organizational tasks.

We are looking for a pro-active and independent person with a problem-solving attitude. Please note that you have to be enrolled at a Dutch university to be eligible for this position.

Your experience and profile:

Education and experience

Essential:
  • A BSc or (currently undergoing) MSc in a relevant discipline (political science, geography, development studies, governance, law, or other relevant disciplines).
  • Experience in managing collaborative projects and engaging with stakeholders.

Skills & Knowledge
Essential:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and to manage deadlines.
  • Pro-active and independent person with a problem-solving attitude.

Desirable:
  • Experience with WordPress.
  • Proficiency in other languages (especially Dutch).

In this institute, you will work
We are looking for a Student Assistant to support the Open Science Justice Lab at the University of Amsterdam, which is dedicated to collaborative research, public engagement, and open-access knowledge sharing to advance the development of a Global Constitution. This initiative is funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) under the Spinoza Prize awarded to Prof. Joyeeta Gupta. The project explores how a 21st-century Global Constitution can address today’s global challenges while ensuring that local issues are not marginalized. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and diverse perspectives, we aim to shape a framework for a more just and sustainable world.
