Job description

For the NWO Water4All project EcoTwin, we are looking for an enthusiastic transdisciplinary post-doctoral researcher. EcoTwin aims to leverage the transformative potential of digital twins for the better integration of ecosystem services in water resource management, focusing on flood/drought regulation, irrigation, habitat provisioning, recreation, water supply, carbon & nutrient management. While traditional modeling methods have laid the groundwork for assessing ecosystem services,digital twins offer an exciting opportunity to revolutionize this field.The post-doctoral researcher will contribute to Ecotwin by -together with stakeholders- develop ecosystem services modules for integration in lake digital twins . In addition, the post-doctoral researcher is charged with the development of user interface that facilitate the uptake of lake digital twins by decision makers.

Requirements

We are looking for applicants with a background in environmental sciences, which have affinity with stakeholder interactions. Applicants should hold a PhD degree in the field of ecosystem services, with proven expertise in working with interdisciplinary knowledge domains. Conducting workshops with stakeholders from backgrounds ranging from legislative authorities to environmental managers is a key element of the project. A sound command of the English language in written and spoken word is required. Knowledge of the Dutch language is recommended (B2 level). Furthermore, the post-doctoral researcher will be tasked with developing ecosystem services modules for intergration in digital twins. Making a proven expertise in modeling, as well as data organizing and handling, is a key skill for the prospective postdoc researcher. Applicants should be teamplayers, who enjoy working within a large consortium of varying backgrounds.

Fixed-term contract: 3 years.

What are we offering?

We offer an interesting post-doctoral position for 4 days per week (0.8 fte) for 3 years, with ample opportunities to expand your network across different scientific domains and with non-science partners. A stimulating research environment in a translational science team that strives to employ team-science approaches in our research and allow members to benefit from each other’s strengths.

Terms of employment
Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is 3.378 and the maximum salary is 5.331 gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale 10 cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP.

For example, by working an extra two hours a week, it is possible to increase the number of days off from 29 to 41 days a year (with full-time employment).
