Job description

The International Institute of Social Studies is a leading academic centre for international development studies. The Marketing & Communication Team is looking for a creative Multimedia Specialist who will work in a highly diverse and very international community of scholars and students.

Job description
Our new colleague has strong interpersonal skills and is a dynamic storyteller, a well-versed content specialist and skilled in producing texts, audio and video for various channels and audiences.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design and produce multimedia content, including texts, interviews, videos, animations, graphics, images and audio
  • Coordinate, manage and monitor ISS’ social media channels
  • Draft and send the monthly external ISS newsletter
  • Design and manage the new ISS Multimedia Studio
  • Be responsible for the ISS house style
  • Assist with multimedia-related tasks during events

Requirements

  • HBO or academic education in multimedia, graphic design or a related area
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Interest in international development and preferably experience with research communication
  • Strong portfolio showcasing multimedia projects, including but not limited to storytelling content, copy writing, social media assets, long or short form videos or podcast production
  • Familiarity with social media trends and ability to analyse performance metrics to optimize outreach strategies
  • Proficiency in multimedia and designing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.)
  • Familiarity with content management systems and web editing
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Creative mindset with strong attention to detail
  • Preferably a native speaker English or at least C1 level communication skills in English
  • Ability to work as a team member and with a hands-on mentality

Conditions of employment

We offer you an internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with excellent working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU).

The start date of this position is as soon as possible. The successful candidate will be based at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in The Hague and will be offered a temporary contract (0,6 – 0,8 FTE) with Erasmus University Rotterdam. The salary is dependent on your experience and knowledge and ranges from a minimum of € 3.537,- to a maximum of € 4.860,- gross per month. Scale 9 on a fulltime basis (38 hours), in accordance with the CAO-NU.

The temporary contract is for the duration of one year and can be converted into a permanent contract if performance is good and the financial and/or organizational circumstances remain unchanged.

The International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) is a leading academic centre for international development studies in The Hague that is part of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR). It is a post-graduate institute of policy-oriented critical social science, founded in 1952. The Institute offers a PhD in Development Studies, a Masters (MA) in Development studies and an MA in Public Policy.

The Marketing & Communication Team of ISS works in close cooperation with staff, students and alumni to raise the Institute’s profile. The team (of five) seeks to engage a cross-section of audiences in the sectors in which we operate, from prospective students to the global academic community, from alumni to funding agencies and policymakers. We are also actively disseminating relevant news and engaging the media, policy makers, civil society organizations and the general public. Research communication is included in the wide range of activities.
