Job description

Do you want to make an impact on a sustainable future?
Are you an experienced analyst with a passion for chemical analysis and coordination?

Do you want to contribute to groundbreaking research on environmental pollution and collaborate with an expert research team? We are looking for a driven laboratory coordinator who enjoys working with LC-MS and GC-MS to analyze soil, water, and organisms for pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and other organic substances.

Does this sound like your next challenge? Read on!
As a laboratory coordinator and chemical analyst at the Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) lab, you will be (co)responsible for ensuring the smooth daily operations of the lab and ensuring the quality and safety of the experiments. You will work closely with other analysts, researchers, and project managers to ensure projects run efficiently. Your tasks will include:
  • Developing and improving methods and lab protocols
  • Preparing samples and performing analyses (using LC-MS and GC-MS)
  • Supervising and training PhD students
  • Analyzing, validating, and reporting results
  • Ensuring compliance with quality and safety regulations

Each day brings new challenges and opportunities to make a difference!

Your team
You will be part of the Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) team at Wageningen Environmental Research (WENR), consisting of around 35 highly qualified colleagues. The group has its own experimental station “de Sinderhoeve” and laboratories where various analyses are conducted related to the research group’s work.

Requirements

You are a proactive, independent, and responsible team player who thrives in a research environment where flexibility is the norm.

You also have:
  • A completed analytical-chemical education at the HBO/HBO+ level
  • Several years of experience working with LC-MS and GC-MS, developing methods/protocols, and sample preparation techniques
  • Strong chemical calculation skills
  • Good command of the Dutch language (both reading and writing)
  • The ability to coordinate activities and people in a research laboratory
  • Familiarity with quality systems such as Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and/or ISO17025
  • A valid driver’s license

In our international work environment, communication is increasingly conducted in English. For this role, a language level of C1 is required. If you don’t yet meet this level, we will assist you, and you can also access our language center, Wageningen in’to Language. We expect you to have a good command of the Dutch language.

You see that there are plenty of challenges ahead of you. These challenges can also be seen as development opportunities. If you don’t yet have the track record requested in the vacancy, but do have solid work experience, we encourage you to apply as well.

WUR welcomes applications from international candidates. However, for applicants for this specific position from outside the EU/EFTA zone, immigration restrictions may apply based on Dutch and EU immigration laws. Such candidates may be eligible for an “orientation year” in the Netherlands or a visa as a “knowledge migrant”.
