Job description

Are you currently doing a Psychology master's degree and enjoy academic writing? Do you enjoy communicating with students, and are you looking for a job besides your studies that is fun and a great addition to your CV? This may be the opportunity for you!

Join us!
We are looking for teaching assistants for the course Practical Training: Psychological Research. This is a mandatory 2nd year course in the Psychology Bachelor at the UvA, in which students learn to write a scientific research report. During the first semester of 25-26, you will teach one practical a week. Other tasks include feedbacking subproducts and grading final papers. Master students from all psychology-related backgrounds can apply for this position.

What are you going to do
  • You'll be teaching weekly 2-hour practicals;
  • You'll give written and oral feedback on students’ subproducts;
  • You’ll grade final papers;
  • You’ll attend weekly team meetings to calibrate with the team and stay informed;
  • You’ll be part of a motivated and supporting tutor team.

What do you have to offer
You are currently doing a Master in Psychology or a Psychology related field. You enjoy academic writing and research and teaching these skills to Psychology students. You enjoy interacting with students and colleagues.

What else do we offer you
You will teach one practical per week (1 PT:PR group) of approximately 10 hours per week between the end of August until mid-February. This is a temporary contract.

This is a peak-hour position: The 10 hours are not evenly distributed over the weeks. Most weeks require fewer than 10 hours, but when feedbacking students’ subproducts or grading final papers, you will spend more than this amount. 10 hours a week is thus an average, not the exact number of hours per week.

You will be a part of the second-year tutor team (TPB for short) and interact with team members on a weekly basis. There will be several meetings throughout the semester (some mandatory, some not) in which you discuss the past and upcoming practicals with colleagues, providing you with the opportunity to ask questions and receive support and feedback.

In this team you will work
The main TPB team consists of 17 tutors teaching 2nd and 3rd year courses throughout the entire academic year. Besides PT:PR, the other lecturers also teach other courses such as SSR and Fundamentals of Psychology. Since PT:PR is a very big course, with many practical groups, the TPB team in the first semester also includes a number of TAs and other lecturers from the programme groups, extending the team to about 35 staff members in the first semester. Though the team is certainly on the large side, we all have the same goal: providing our students with high-quality practicals and feedback. Team members are very motivated and the atmosphere in this team is very positive and supportive!

If you recognize yourself in this profile and are interested in the role, we look forward to receiving your motivation letter and CV. You can apply via the red button until June 15 23.59h. Interviews will take place between June 30 and July 4. In case of equal qualifications, internal candidates will be given preference over external candidates.
