Job description

Within the framework of the European Chips Strategy, the MESA+ NanoLab at the University of Twente is involved in the creation of PIXEurope, starting the development of a European pilot line for photonic chips that aims to offer cutting-edge technological platforms, transforming and transferring innovative and disruptive integrated photonics processes and technologies to accelerate their industrial adoption. MESA+ Nanolab is investing in cleanroom infrastructure and personnel and further strengthen its activities in, amongst others, integrated photonics and quantum technology. We are seeking for a facility and equipment engineer with knowledge of cleanroom equipment and processes who will support the technical facility management of the NanoLab and also can support maintenance of equipment.

Essential Job Duties
  • Planning and coordinating regular building maintenance with coordination of subcontractors
  • Supervising (external) maintenance parties
  • General tasks for the NanoLab like receiving guests, support of cleanroom users and starting up/shutting down the cleanroom.
  • Troubleshooting with a systematic approach to problems.
  • Project coordination and engineering for replacement and improvement proposals of building installations
  • Project coordination and engineering for installation of new process equipment in the NanoLab
  • Energy and environmental improvements to building installations and process equipment
  • (Building up) thorough understanding and first-line maintenance capabilities of designated equipment and corresponding processes.
  • Support of related documentation and reports (NIS).
  • Training and education of new users on designated equipment.
  • Facility management is primarily directed towards the MESA+ NanoLab but may also be partly oriented to the High Tech Factory.

Requirements

  • You have a BSc degree in electrical engineering or a comparable field.
  • You have experience with working in a cleanroom environment.
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills, both in Dutch and in English.
  • You are able to communicate and collaborate with academic and industrial parties in regular meetings and work visits.
  • You have analytical skills, high quality of service, and good planning and organizational skills.
  • We are looking for an excellent team player, with an accurate and proactive attitude.

Conditions of employment

  • MESA+ NanoLab offers a fulltime challenging position in an inspiring and international environment for initially one year. Before the end of the contract, you will be subject to a job performance evaluation. If positive and the circumstances of the organization remain the same, the contract may be converted into a permanent contract;
  • The terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Universities (CAO-NU);
  • Your salary, depending on your education and experience, will be a minimum of € 3.708,- and a maximum of € 5.057,- gross per month (in accordance with scale 9 of the CAO-NU).
  • Excellent benefits including a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, a year-end bonus of 8.3% and a solid pension scheme;
  • A minimum of 29 leave days in full-time employment based on a formal workweek of 38 hours. Full time employment in practice means 40 hours a week, therefore resulting in 96 extra leave hours on an annual basis;

MESA+ is a leading Research Institute for nanotechnology at the University of Twente with focus on key enabling technologies (KETs) - photonics, fluidics, hard materials, soft materials and devices, combined with responsible research & innovation - and the convergence of these to realize disruptive innovations in the areas of most societal challenges. Our main contributions are on the Health, ICT and Sustainability areas. Research and Analysis on the nanometer scale require laboratories with extreme specifications.
