Job description

The Humans & Technology (H&T) research team conducts high-quality multidisciplinary scientific research at the intersection of people and technology, translating fundamental insights into practical applications, services, and policies. Researchers use various labs and equipment to perform experiments with participants.

Our themed labs are currently aligned with the fields of Psychology, Robotics, Gaming, Virtual Reality, and Lighting. In the position of research support technician, you will enable scientists and students in performing experiments in the Humans & Technology (H&T) labs, assisting with the experiment setup, and providing documentation/instructions on the use of various equipment and facilities.

Information
Assisting in the realization of laboratory setups:
  • Provide hands-on assistance with the construction of laboratory setups.
  • Maintain contact with facility services and companies involved in the realization of setups.
  • Provide support when challenges arise during experiments.

Designing and implementation of software for the laboratory setups:
  • Design applications to run on prototyping hardware such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi.
  • Testing, debugging, and improving pre-exiting software when needed.
  • Develop solutions using the Microsoft .NET framework whenever possible.
  • Writing documentation for deployment of hardware and software.

Managing equipment and access passes:
  • Ensure maintenance of equipment.
  • Manage the lending system.
  • Instruct students and staff on how to use the equipment.
  • Manage the access passes for the labs.

Inventory management and orders:
  • Manage the stock of consumables.
  • Prepare orders for equipment.
  • Place orders for equipment and materials.

Software licenses, updates and upgrades:
  • Manage software licenses for lab applications.
  • Perform regular system updates on lab PCs.

Functional management of online research tools:
  • Manage user accounts for online research tools.

Requirements

We are looking for a new colleague who:
  • Has at least a completed (preferably a technical) HBO level education.
  • Is handy and has sufficient technical insight.
  • Has a strong communicative personality and enjoys speaking to colleagues and students.
  • Is broadly oriented and likes to work in a dynamic environment.
  • Has an affinity for working with prototyping/IoT hardware.
  • Has an affinity for VR environment development and software development.
  • Has a good command of English, both written and spoken.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

  • A TU/e or EuFlex employment contract, initially for one year, with the prospect of permanent employment.
  • A monthly salary of minimum €3.382 to maximum €5.057 for full-time employment, depending on your knowledge and experience (scale 8-9 collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities).
