Job description

Are you passionate about sustainability, climate transitions, and systemic change? Would you like to gain hands-on experience supporting research and collaboration at the intersection of science and society? SEVEN is looking for a Student Assistant to support our team in advancing projects that contribute to climate transitions.

As a Student Assistant, you will play an important supporting role in the daily work of SEVEN. You’ll assist the SEVEN team with research, communication, and organizational tasks across a range of ongoing initiatives.

What you will do
  • Support research and analysis activities, including assisting with literature reviews, data collection, and mapping exercises related to SEVEN’s projects and thematic areas.
  • Assist in stakeholder engagement processes, helping to plan, organize, and document participatory sessions, workshops, roundtables, and other SEVEN events.
  • Contribute to compiling and monitoring research data, helping track project activities, funding, and partnerships for SEVEN’s annual reporting.
  • Help maintain the contact management system, supporting data entry, updates, and tagging to ensure accurate stakeholder information.
  • Provide support to communications and outreach efforts, assisting in the preparation of newsletters, event announcements, and other knowledge-sharing materials.

What you bring
  • You are a Master’s student at one of the Faculties of the UvA, preferably with an interest in sustainability, climate research, or societal transitions.
  • You have strong research and organizational skills and feel comfortable collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
  • You are proficient in the MS Office Suite (especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and ideally have experience with Canva or similar tools for creating communication is materials.
  • You are a clear and careful communicator in English; knowledge of Dutch is considered an asset.
  • You work accurately and in a structured way, enjoy collaborating in a team, and can take initiative within agreed frameworks.

What we offer
We offer a temporary employment contract for a period of one year, with a two-month probation period. The position is for 10 hours per week. The UFO profile of Student Assistant applies.
The gross monthly salary ranges between €3.084 and €3.141, based on a 38-hour work week (scale SA, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities – CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten). The University of Amsterdam offers an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus. The CAO for Dutch Universities applies.The CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten applies.

SEVEN is the climate institute of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and brings together expertise from all seven faculties. SEVEN leverages this broad knowledge base to address climate change and strengthen the resilience of vulnerable societies around the world.
Our approach is rooted in systems thinking and is always inter- and transdisciplinary.

As a Student Assistant, you will become part of SEVEN’s core team of six people. You will also regularly collaborate with SEVEN’s postdocs, steering group members, and the nearly 100 researchers affiliated with the institute.
