Job description

What you are going to do

United for Metabolic Diseases (UMD; www.umd.nl) is a recently established national collaborative between 6 Dutch University Medical Centers uniting clinicians, laboratory specialists, researchers and bioinformaticians with the collective goal to improve diagnosis, prevention and clinical care for patients and families affected by inherited metabolic diseases. There is a close collaboration with the national metabolic patient organization VKS, and catalyst funding is provided by Stichting Metakids for a 5 year period. We are looking for a self-directed, highly motivated individual with excellent organizational skills to manage this multi-disciplinary project.

The project manager will work closely with the UMD program directors and the UMD operating board and is expected to maintain knowledge of many sub-projects, complete progress and financial reports for granting agencies, developing and maintaining contracts and research ethics board applications between sites, developing funding applications and drafting / editing of manuscripts and presentations. Duties will include (but are not limited to): tracking patient progress in the research study and communicating results, consenting patients for study participation, serving as the liaison between the collaborating clinics and the research teams, patient engagement, and aiding with knowledge translation and communication with the public.

Main Responsibilities

  • Oversight of a multi-million euro budget in collaboration with a consortium controller, including annual financial reporting to funding partners
  • Coordination of human resources, including overview of all staff and students involved in the UMD 
  • Responsible for progress reporting to diverse stakeholders 
  • Oversight of UMD research activities, including coordination of work package activities at the administrative level
  • Coordination and tracking of specific disease -related projects including database management 
  • Maintain up-to-date overview of all of the procedures and technologies used in the UMD
  • Coordination and contribution to operating board meetings, write minutes, action plans and reports
  • Coordination of meetings with Steering committee and task forces
  • Organization of annual UMD conference 
  • Provision of input into clinic and research meetings, planning, workload, and scheduling
  • Coordination internal grant application and review process within the UMD 
  • Search for and contribution to external grant applications of the UMD
  • Renewal of Research Ethic Board applications
  • Coordination of content and updates of the UMD website / portal for clinicians, researchers, patients
  • Coordination of communication with and between members of the UMD consortium 
  • Coordination and promotion communication to the lay public
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the UMD

Requirements

We are looking for a self-directed, highly motivated individual with excellent organizational skills to manage this multi-disciplinary project.

Qualifications

  • Fluent in Dutch and Proficient in English (both written and verbal)
  • PhD in Medicine or Medical Science (Essential)
  • Understanding of inborn errors of metabolism and molecular biology (preferred)   
  • Minimum two years of experience in a relevant field (project management, research associate) (Essential)
  • High level of competency in various computer software and programs, including Excel (Essential)         
  • Ability to use an electronic database
  • Experience with clinical translation of research (Preferred)                                                              
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills (Essential)                                                  
  • Clear evidence of attention to detail and flexibility with respect to multitasking (Essential)                            
  • Ability to ensure timely completion of tasks by adjusting priorities as required (Essential)
  • Communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing (Essential)
  • Effectively use interpersonal skills when dealing with team members (Essential)
  • Previous work experience with a clinical or laboratory team (Preferred)

  • The maximum gross monthly salary based on a 36-hour work week is € 4.361,- (scale 10 CAO UMC). 
  • The base salary does not include holiday pay (8%) and a year-end bonus (8.3%). 
  • We offer an initial contract for 24 months that can be extended (after evaluation) for another 36 months. 
  • In addition to excellent accessibility by public transport, AMC also has a sufficient number of parking spaces for employees.
  • Pension is accrued at Be Frank.
