The position
The Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD) is hiring a General Manager. Reporting to the Chair of the Executive Board of Directors and participating in the Executive Board, the individual is a key member of the Operational Management Team and a bold, strategic thinker. Applying leadership and people management skills, the individual manages the overall daily operations of AIGHD.
Specifically, the General Manager is responsible for a wide variety of key tasks including budgeting, partnerships and ensuring the smooth operation of day-to-day management of the organization. As an organization with a complex, international network of stakeholders which includes academic institutes, funding agencies and NGOs, the successful candidate’s flexible and pragmatic approach is vital for success.
The individual’s result-oriented approach and ability to motivate a workforce will guide our organization in building and maintaining relationships with partners, increasing staff engagement, strategically ensure financial sustainability and achieving our strategic targets. As part of this diverse portfolio, the individual must be able to make swift, informed decisions in consultation with the (chair of) executive board on behalf of the organization while maintaining a high level of professionalism in all situations. Candidates should have strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to work across cultures while effectively negotiating positive business outcomes.

AIGHD has a fulltime workweek of 40 hours, 25 days leave annually, an attractive collective pension plan and a very comprehensive collective health insurance scheme. The position is based at the office of AIGHD in Amsterdam.

It aims to educate and inspire the next generation of global health leaders at undergraduate, post-graduate and professional levels to shape a healthier and more prosperous future for all.
