The research group intellectual disabilities and health at the Radboud university medical center in Nijmegen closely collaborates with eight Intellectual disability (ID) care provider services in a collaborative called 'stronger on your own feet'. This academic collaborative is now searching for five interdisciplinairy PhD candidates to make a significant impact on the health of people with ID. You will join a highly ambitious and collaborative team and work on one of the projects described below. More information on these projects can be found here.

1. Impact of ID physician expertise in optimizing medical care for people with ID
2. System innovations to improve health through research-practice networks in ID care
3. Precision medicine and personalized care for chronic diseases in people with ID
4. Expanding the availability of healthcare innovations for people with ID: exploring health technologies and applications to improve health.
5. Improving cancer care for people with ID

As a PhD candidate in our group you are responsible for designing and performing the studies in your research project, creating strong collaborations within your project, reporting on your research results in both scientific journals and platforms for broader audiences. The PhD position is embedded in graduate school RIHS (Radboud institute for Health sciences).

Tasks and responsibilities

• Design and perform research studies;
• Collect and analyze data (qualitative and quantitative);
• Report research results in scientific journals;
• Collaborating with co-researchers with ID who are experts by experience;
• Presenting research results at conferences and meetings;
• Representing the academic collaborative.

We are looking for candidates with a strong interest in health research and affinity with people with intellectual disabilities and:

• A masters degree in either: (biomedical) health sciences, medicine, management sciences, social sciences, communication sciences;
• ID (intellectual disability) physicians are also encouraged to apply;
• Research master is an advantage;
• Experienced with writing and reporting on research;
• Independent, flexible and pro-active;
• A team player and willing to work with others in our team;
• Analytical mind and experience with either qualitative or quantitative research methods;
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Candidates who only partially meet this profile are nonetheless strongly encouraged to apply.

• Employment will be for 3 or 4 years. After one year we will evaluate your suitability for the position.
• The gross monthly salary, depending on education will be scale 10A (max. € 3.020) or scale 10 (max. € 4.361) based on a full-time working week (excl. vacation bonus and 8,3% end of year payments).

Upon commencement of employment we require a certificate of conduct (Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag, VOG) and there will be, depending on the type of job, a screening based on the provided cv. Radboud university medical center's HR Department will apply for this certificate on your behalf.

Department of Primary Care
The research center is a part of the Primary Care Department at Radboud university medical center. The Primary Care Department is a top, international center for education, training, and research in the field of Primary Care. The Department houses a wide array of disciplines with the common thread in that they all operate within the sphere of primary care. These involve disciplines such as General Practice Medicine, specialization Elderly Care Medicine, Public Health, Occupational Medicine, and Intellectual Disability Medicine.

With 210 staff members (130 FTE), the Primary Care Department is one of the larger departments at Radboud university medical center and fulfills an important role as a liaison between the hospital and primary healthcare. The Department focuses on developing, supporting, and evaluating care innovations, particularly through the incorporation and integration of prevention, self-care and autonomy, primary healthcare, and transmural care. Since 2010, patient care has formed an integral component of the Department via academic health centers, where the emphasis lies strongly on proactive, multidisciplinary, innovative and integrated care.
